You will provide expert guidance on all areas of human resources including recruitment, on and off boarding, employee relations, performance management, contract interpretation, and occupational health and safety. Areas of Responsibility:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing day-to-day support, and guidance to leaders, employees and administrators on the full spectrum of human resource matters including recruitment, labour relations, workforce planning, employee relations, and performance management, ensuring consistency and compliance with the collective agreement and relevant legislation to promote effective and positive employment relationships
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and compliance as required under the collective agreement
  • Support workplace investigations as assigned and draft objective, clear and professional reports of findings
  • Manage the grievance process by fostering early resolution and minimizing organizational risk by dealing with union representatives to proactively address workplace concerns
  • Support the preparation and support of collective bargaining, including research, data collection and analysis before and during negotiations
  • Recommend effective strategies to improve employee relations, engagement, and retention based on trends and feedback
  • Guide and manage the full recruitment process including job description, posting, screening, selection support, onboarding and offboarding
  • Collaborate with the HR Director and leadership to design and implement robust recruitment, onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Draft and review employment agreements, ensuring compliance with legislation and collective agreement provisions and ensure complete new hire documentation is provided to relevant departments
  • Draft, support and regularly review policies, procedures, and guidelines within areas of responsibility, actively educating employees on same, and making evidence-based recommendations to promote a respectful, informed work environment
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, ensuring alignment with the professional development provisions in the collective agreement and in accordance with policies
  • Liaise with the Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB), monitor and verify teaching certifications via the portal, maintain accurate records and tracking, and support teachers in obtaining or maintaining required certification
  • Ensure Criminal Record Checks are completed, renewed and properly documented for employees, contractors, and volunteers
  • Liaise with WorkSafe BC on compliance, workplace claims, incidents, and investigations, escalating issues where safety or legal risks exist; participating and supporting the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, ensuring compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations
  • Stay current on HR best practices, legislation, labour case law, and health and safety requirements, and advise the school of any implications
  • Maintain accurate and organized employee records in both digital and physical formats to ensure timely retrieval and compliance
  • Prepare and issue employment confirmation and verification of teaching experience letters
  • Collect and analyze employee feedback data and provide insight and reporting to support HR decision-making
  • Maintain and regularly update the school’s organizational chart
  • Perform other related duties as required in support of Human Resources operations

Qualifications and Requirements

Education & Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; a combination of education, experience, and relevant skills will also be considered
  • CPHR designation or Candidate status is considered an asset


Experience

  • 3–5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including employee relations and labour relations in a unionized environment
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading or supporting recruitment and selection processes
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing HR initiatives
  • Experience working with HRIS platforms is required; proficiency with BambooHR is strongly preferred

Technical Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools
  • Strong digital fluency, with the ability to navigate HR systems and data with accuracy and efficiency
