HR Manager - Fractional

Voyis
$73,718 - $93,343 a year
Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario
2 weeks ago

About Voyis:

Voyis designs and manufactures high performance underwater optical sensors for subsea vehicles (laser scanners, cameras, and lighting systems) that expand capability and enhance human understanding in ocean exploration and survey. Our products have enabled our customers to survey thousands of kilometers of the ocean floor across all 7 continents, as well as producing 3D reconstructions of famous shipwrecks like the RMS Titanic and HMS Endurance. Our mission is to push the limits of what’s possible subsea and enable every underwater vehicle to see the depths like we see the surface.

What you’ll do:

As a Fractional HR Manager at Voyis, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our people and culture function. Being our first dedicated HR professional, you’ll be tasked with building the HR foundation for our growing organization. You will develop a comprehensive HR roadmap, conduct a compliance gap analysis, create core policies and processes, and help foster a positive, engaged workplace.

Working closely with leadership and employees, you’ll engage with individuals across the organization to understand the current culture and identify any potential challenges. From this you will define and implement a People & Culture strategy that aligns with our mission, values, and long-term business goals. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced HR leader who thrives on building HR functions from the ground up in a growing and dynamic company.

This is a part-time role, 2 days per week, for a senior HR professional. The role will be primarily in-office (Waterloo, ON) to foster meaningful engagement with our team, with flexibility for remote work on documentation tasks.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Take the pulse of the organization: engage with employees and leadership to identify and prioritize key people and culture challenges.
  • Define and communicate a People & Culture strategy that aligns with Voyis’ values and future growth plans.
  • Develop a 1–3 year HR roadmap covering policies, processes, systems (HRIS, training, benefits), and cultural initiatives.
  • Draft and implement core HR policies and procedures (e.g., code of conduct, performance management, hiring & onboarding, DEI).
  • Advise & support Leadership Team on best practices in employee engagement, diversity & inclusion, and organizational development.
  • Lay the groundwork for a future full-time HR hire who will build on and execute the strategy and systems you’ve put in place.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to Leadership

Skills you will bring to the table:

  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, with a track record of building or transforming HR functions, ideally in a tech, engineering, or manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build trust across all levels of the organization.
  • Deep knowledge of Canadian employment law, HR policies, and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fractional/part-time capacity.
  • Experience developing HR roadmaps, policies, and systems.

Bonus Points for:

  • Prior experience in a fractional HR leadership role or as an HR consultant.
  • Familiarity with technology-focused or manufacturing organizations.
  • Change management and organizational development expertise.

Why you should join Voyis:

Our team is made up of problem-solvers, passionate about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible underwater. We get excited about building cool stuff and working on exciting projects like going to the Titanic, Endurance (and lots of other shipwrecks too!). We are a small and closely-knit team. Each member of our team makes a significant impact not just on our business, but on our customers as well.

At Voyis we value diversity and we’re proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all. We thank everyone who applies and for their interest in working for Voyis, however, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. No telephone or walk-in inquiries please.
