Oskam Steel Fabricators, recently joined the Carrier Process Equipment Group (CPEG), based out of Louisville, Kentucky with locations across the globe. At our Port Colborne location, we are currently seeking a full-time HR Generalist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be adaptable to shifting priorities, value teamwork, and be comfortable working independently to drive both team and organizational goals forward. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our organization while making a meaningful impact on our HR operations.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The HR Generalist provides on-site support to employees and works in close collaboration with the corporate HR team based in Louisville, Kentucky and Tonawanda, New York. This role is responsible for overseeing the full employee life cycle, including onboarding, performance management, and offboarding. It also manages the administration of benefits and leave programs, while ensuring consistent and compliant application of company policies and procedures. The HR Generalist plays a key role in fostering a positive workplace culture and supporting the effective delivery of daily HR operations.

Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Lead the full recruitment process, including job postings, screening resumes, scheduling and conducting interviews, preparing employment agreements, and completing onboarding with employees.
  • Participate in JHSC meetings, prepare itinerary, take meeting minutes, and handout to all departments.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of performance reviews and employee evaluations.
  • Administer employee benefits and pension plan programs and assist with benefit-related inquiries and coordinate with external providers.
  • Work with Managers to identify training requirements and coordinate with external training providers to schedule training.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS system, Paylocity.
  • Investigate and resolve workplace conflicts or issues.
  • Submit and manage WSIB claims and facilitate return-to-work plans/offer of modified duties by communicating with employees and Managers.
  • Manage short-term and long-term disability claims for employees the benefit provider and maintain communication with both parties to ensure a smooth return to work.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with local, federal, and provincial laws and regulations.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

Additional Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Provide support to managers and employees with timecards and review or edit timecards for employee absences and time off.
  • Serve as backup payroll reviewer in the payroll system, Blue Marble, when needed.
  • Promote employee wellness and employee engagement initiatives by organizing events and programs and lead the wellness committee.
  • Attend recruiting events, if needed.
  • Prepare reports as requested.
  • Perform other HR duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Five or more years of HR experience.
  • Recognized Human Resources designation Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP). Equivalent combination of education in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, and certifications will be considered.
  • Strong customer service skills maintaining a customer-focused perspective in all activities to ensure that customer (both internal and external) needs are successfully met.
  • Excellent reading and comprehension skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, federal and provincial laws pertaining to HR.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • The ability to exercise the highest level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Must be detail-oriented, possess a high degree of accuracy and work well under pressure.
  • Able to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
