Reporting to the Lead Technician, the Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) plays a key role in delivering high-quality diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance in both shop and field settings. The successful candidate brings mechanical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a safety-first mindset to every job. This position is ideal for a dedicated tradesperson who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is ready to be part of a high-performing and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical/mechanical components
- Perform preventative maintenance and complex repairs on a variety of heavy-duty equipment
- Complete field-based service calls and on-site repairs as needed
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions
- Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, parts usage, inspections, and hazard assessments
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients regarding service updates and repair recommendations
- Mentor and support apprentices and contribute to a team culture of continuous learning
- Adhere to safety protocols and comply with all customer site requirements
Qualifications:
- Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician Certification (HET)
- Red Seal designation
- Minimum 4 years of industry experience in heavy-duty repair
- Previous field service truck experience
- Mechanical proficiency with diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Strong troubleshooting and time management skills
- Air Brake certification (asset)
- Class 5 Driver’s License / Class 1 or 3 Driver’s License considered an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and shop management software (e.g., Protractor)
