Dutchak Scrap Metal is currently seeking a candidate to fill the role of Full Time Heavy Equipment Operator. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy equipment (primarily tracked excavators) in a safe and effective manner while moving scrap material around the scrap yard for processing.
40 hours per week are being offered. More hours are available for candidate who wish to work more. Saturday shifts are available also.
Hourly rate of pay will be based on previous related operating experience, with preference given to operators who have previous experience running excavators with shear attachments or magnet attachments in a metal processing, demolition or related environment.
Position Summary:
- Cut scrap steel using shear and/or sort scrap steel using magnet and/or demo thumb
- Assist in keeping the yard and operator work area(s) clean
- Check required fluids and grease equipment to ensure efficient operation
- Practice workplace safety
- Operate during all types of weather conditions
- Perform and assist in maintenance and repairs as required
Skills / Abilities / Experience Required:
- Experience working in a metal processing or demolition environment is considered a definite asset
- Experience sorting scrap steel with a magnet or cutting steel with mobile shear is considered a definite asset
- Operator should be mechanically included (fluid checks, hose changes, greasing)
- Experience working in a fast paced, hectic environment required
- High awareness and regard for safety at all times is essential
- Ability to be flexible with shifts and work some weekends (Saturdays) is considered a definite asset also
