GIS Planner
PERMANENT FULL TIME (12 MONTHS)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Manager of Planning, the GIS Planner will be responsible for managing Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s (DPCDSB) current GIS database, obtain data from external resources, present statistical information in a visual format, and analyze data. The GIS Planner will develop analytical and interactive mapping and data analysis to support various projects including but not limited to the development of the DPCDSB strategic plans, Long-Term Facilities Master Plan, long-term enrolment projections, Education Development Charges By-Law review, Pupil Accommodation Reviews, boundary adjustments and the DPCDSB Destinations Directory. The GIS Planner will develop and maintain an online school locator tool, conduct studies related to student demographic patterns, act as a liaison with other organizations to collect geographic related data, and confer with other school boards with respect to best practices and professional development as it relates to school board GIS uses
RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
The GIS Planner will support the DPCDSB Research Department through the analysis of the impacts of socio-demographic trends such as, but not limited to EQAO results, population distribution, immigration/migration patterns, birth rates and other factors that directly influence student enrolment.
The GIS Planner will develop, maintain, and present reliable and time sensitive planning information, statistical data, and comprehensive databases for public reporting purposes, and in relation to enrolment management strategies, boundary reviews, Pupil Accommodation Reviews, Capital Priorities, and the board’s Long Term Facilities Master Plan, among others, to and for use by Executive Council, trustees, board staff, Ministry of Education, municipalities, government agencies, and the public.
The GIS Planner will review development applications and prepare development comments for municipalities within the Peel Region and Dufferin County.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- University Degree and/or Diploma in the field(s) of Geographic Information Systems, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Environmental Sciences, or a related field with emphasis on GIS or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ practical work experience in GIS applications
- Advanced knowledge of GIS and application development software packages, such as (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro)
- Experience in the field of school board planning or other public sector organization would be an asset
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS/ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to access, evaluate and synthesize large data sets in an array of formats and mediums from various information sources (e.g. Region of Peel, local municipalities, Statistics Canada, Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) data, student information systems, birth data, Environics data, etc.)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Record-keeping and data-entry skills, attention to details and accuracy, with ability to work in a confidential manner.
- Excellent critical thinking, communication, analytical problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- Experience in data collection and analysis, with specific emphasis on actual student enrolment, projected student enrolment, facility utilization, and school capacity data
- Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment, tact, and sensitivity in dealing with internal and external contacts
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize and successfully complete projects with conflicting deadlines and urgency
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
- Knowledge of municipal development review process is an asset
- Experience in a unionized sector is an asset
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
