GIS/GENERAL LABOUR - Summer Employment
The GIS/General Labour Summer Student is a seasonal position that supports Athabasca County's Infrastructure and GIS/Asset Management operations. This role combines outdoor fieldwork with GIS data collection and general municipal maintenance activities. The successful candidate will be involved in collecting GPS data, assisting with mapping tasks, and performing general maintenance on County infrastructure when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and update GPS data for municipal assets including signs, bridges, road centrelines, culverts, catch basins, and other infrastructure.
- Use iPads, iPhones, and GPS devices to accurately gather and log location data.
- Support surveys and transportation-related projects.
- Assist with outdoor maintenance tasks.
- Help transport materials and equipment as needed.
- Conduct visual roadway checks and report potential public safety concerns.
- Participate in regular safety meetings and training as part of the County’s Health and Safety program.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.
- Experience using GPS, iPad, iPhone, or other field data collection tools.
- Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable reading and interpreting printed and digital maps.
- Basic understanding of GIS technology and data accuracy requirements is an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools and light equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Knowledge of Athabasca County and its infrastructure is considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to public service and safety.

Pay: $22.50-$26.05 per hour

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
