About TC Transcontinental RBW Graphics:
This position is based at the TC Transcontinental RBW Graphics plant in Owen Sound, Ontario, which has been in operation for over 171 years. With over 400 employees, it is the largest commercial printing plant of magazines, flyers, catalogues, and directories in Canada. Owen Sound is a smaller city filled with cultural, outdoor, and recreational activities.
We are currently seeking a full-time General Machinist to join our team at our Owen Sound facility. The General Machinist responsibilities include setting up, operating, and maintaining various machine tools to produce precision metal parts. Additionally, they perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on manufacturing production equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reducing downtime.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to all health and safety rules and regulations
- Mandatory Lock Out / Tag Out & Hot Works permits must be followed and documented as per policies and procedures
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment.
- Measure and inspect machined parts using precision instruments like micrometers and calipers.
- Adjust machine settings to optimize performance and ensure product accuracy.
- Perform mechanical repairs on production equipment, including troubleshooting issues, replacing worn components, and maintaining operational efficiency.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on manufacturing machinery to avoid unexpected failures.
- Maintain quality control standards by inspecting finished products for defects.
- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to improve performance and reliability of equipment and maintenance processes.
- Follow safety protocols and workplace regulations to ensure a secure working environment.
Qualifications
- A Certificate of Qualification as an General Machinist (429A) or Equivalent
- Proven experience as a machinist or completion of a machinist apprenticeship
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machines.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and repairing manufacturing equipment.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Attention to detail and precision in machining and repair operations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to handle tools and materials.
