The Food Services Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Food Services provided at the 360°kids Richmond Hill Community Hub including developing daily menus; purchasing and procurement of menu items; budgeting and cost control of Food services budget; preparing and supervising of the preparation and cooking of all food items; ensuring that the kitchen provides a variety of nutritious, safe, appealing, and properly flavored food.
Key Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Manager of Hub Programs, develops, supports, and implements approved strategies and plans to achieve program goals and objectives
- Leads the development and implementation of departmental food service standards, ensuring quality in cooking methods, presentation, portion control, and nutrient retention
- Oversees the overall operations of the kitchen including proper storage of foods and cleaning of kitchen areas in accordance with safe food handling and health and safety requirements.
- On a regular basis, reports issues of need and/or concern the Manager of Hub Programs. In the event of a crisis or critical incident, immediately reports to the appropriate level.
- Follows appropriate policies and procedures of 360°kids.
- Ensures that the program operates in line with 360°kids’ mission, vision and values and activities comply with applicable standards and laws.
- Develops nutritious, safe, appealing menus to provide youth at the Richmond Hill Hub with nutritious meal options.
- Ensures all food prepared in the kitchen is nutritious, safe, appealing, and properly flavoured food for youth accessing Home Base services as well as Connections residents.
- Coordinates with Connections staff and residents to determine dietary needs and restrictions.
- Plans, coordinates and prepares meals for special events.
- Oversees the day to day operations of the kitchen and the management all food related functions for 360°kids.
- Ensures proper care and cleaning of all kitchen equipment, including monitoring equipment for appropriate temperature control.
- Completes work orders for maintenance and repairs of kitchen equipment.
- Maintains a safe and sanitary work environment and ensures it is upheld for all employees at all times.
- Supervises kitchen personnel including hiring, training, performance management, motivation, and empowerment.
- Fosters and promotes a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale.
- Determines food, labour and overhead costs and prepares Food Services budget in accordance with the needs of the programs and 360°kids for submission to the funder and/or the Board of Directors.
- Monitors the program’s finances and the development and implementation of action plans, supports fund-raising, as needed, to improve financial performance.
- Minimizes waste and maintains controls to attain forecasted food and labour costs.
- Prepares and completes weekly food orders to manage weekly meal plans and maximize use of donations.
- Provides occasional life skills training, such as recipe creation, kitchen safety, and other health & safety procedures for youth at the Community Hub.Coordinates with the Manager of Employment Programs on the Every Bite Matters program.
- Completes all mandatory recording and reporting including daily documentation and statistical data collection. Provides reports and related information to the Manager of Prevention Programs as required and in a timely manner.
- Maintains records and tracking of food served and other statistics, as required.
- Participates in regular supervision meetings and performance appraisal meetings on a semi-annual basis.
- Post-Secondary degree/diploma in Culinary or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years food service coordination experience.
- Current food handling certificate.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification an asset.
- Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).
- Car and valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Strong administration and leadership skills including motivation, delegation, coaching/ mentoring, empowerment and demonstrated initiative.
- Ability to make decisions and work independently, strong personal ethics, integrity, reliable, time management and organization skills.
- Excellent relationship building, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills that promote positive team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
