About the Organization:
The Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation (NLSF) is a registered charity that supports students in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools (NLPS) community. Through initiatives like the Food4Schools program, the Foundation helps ensure students have the necessities to succeed, including access to food, school supplies, and other essentials. NLSF works in partnership with schools, donors, and community organizations to eliminate barriers to education and well-being for local children and youth.
Position Overview:
The Food Program & Delivery Assistant plays a key role in the operation of the Food4Schools Food Depot, focusing on warehouse operations and the delivery of food and supplies to schools throughout the district. This position supports the timely and accurate distribution of school food and related materials, ensuring schools receive consistent support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Load and unload vehicles for transporting food and supplies (must be able to lift up to 50 lbs)
- Deliver food hampers and supplies to school sites in a timely, organized manner
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and follow safety protocols for transportation
- Sort, store, and organize incoming food and inventory within the depot
- Safely dispose of packaging materials (e.g., wooden crates, pallets, cardboard)
- Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment, including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces
- Assist in assembling food hampers, as needed
- Support other aspects of the Food4Schools program requiring basic systems knowledge
- Communicate effectively with team members and school staff to coordinate deliveries
Qualifications:
- Physically able to perform repetitive lifting and warehouse work (up to 50 lbs)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
- Valid BC Driver’s License with a clean driving record (required)
- Experience with delivery driving or warehouse work is an asset
- Ability to follow food handling and safety protocols
- Positive attitude and commitment to supporting students in the community
Working Conditions:
- Work is based on the school calendar (September – June), following school holidays and closures
- Role involves both warehouse and on-the-road delivery work
- Regular schedule with occasional changes based on program needs
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Seasonal
Contract length: 10 months
Pay: $21.40-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
