The Parkland School Division has a Permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) position as an FNMI Liaison.

Position Summary: Memorial Composite High School is seeking a dedicated and proactive FNMI Liaison to support Indigenous students in achieving academic success and fostering a positive school experience. This role collaborates closely with the Paul Band Community Liaison and other partners dedicated to Indigenous student support within the school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Coaching & Attendance Support: Engage with students to identify and address barriers to improve school attendance and engagement, ensuring they feel supported in their educational journey.
  • Transportation Monitoring: Assist with monitoring students as they enter and exit the buses, ensuring a smooth and safe transition to and from the school environment.
  • Hallway Monitoring & Classroom Guidance: Help maintain a positive school atmosphere by guiding students in the hallways and encouraging timely attendance to scheduled classes.
  • Academic Coaching: Provide students with best practices for achieving academic success in a high school environment, including time management, study skills, and awareness of academic resources.
  • Parent Communication: Maintain open and proactive communication with parents, keeping them informed about their child’s progress and any support available to promote positive academic outcomes.
  • Administration Communication: Collaborate closely with school administration, providing regular updates on student progress, attendance, and any additional support needed to foster a nurturing learning environment.
  • Active Memorial Team Member: Participate actively in school team meetings and initiatives, bringing insights and strategies that support Indigenous students and enhance the overall school environment.
  • Advocate for Indigenous Students: Identify and advocate for the unique needs of Indigenous students, ensuring that support systems align with cultural and community values.
  • Cultural Awareness & Sensitivity: Cultivate an understanding of Indigenous cultures, recognizing the unique needs of Indigenous students and facilitating culturally responsive interactions and support.
  • Holistic Student Support: Approach each student's needs with a comprehensive perspective, addressing academic, social, and emotional factors that contribute to their overall success and well-being.

This position plays a vital role in creating a supportive and enriched environment for Indigenous students at Memorial Composite High School. Candidates should have a strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, student engagement practices, and experience in mentorship or educational support roles.

Education and Experience

a) Education:

  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work or related to Youth is an asset



b) Experience:

i) 1 to 3 years of related experience working with Indigenous students is an asset


Equivalencies will be considered.

The scheduled hours to be worked will be determined by each specific position.


This position may require the use of a personal vehicle as per job posting.

This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check.


This position is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 5543




Hours of Work: 35 hours/week

Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Pay Rate: $26.43/hr - $29.62/hr (Category 4)
