PPS – CASUAL FINANCIAL SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE
JOB SUMMARY
The Casual Financial Service Representative (FSR) provides member service in the form of correct transactions and by providing members with information to receive the financial services PPS provides. FSRs understand their role to provide a positive experience to all members. This position is a member of CUPE Local 5536 and reports to the PPS Manager.

PHS Community Services Society provides housing, harm reduction, health promotion and health care to vulnerable communities. Our supportive housing and low barrier programs provide refuge, services and advocacy for those who are homeless or poorly served elsewhere due to their physical health, mental health, behaviour, substance use, or involvement with the criminal justice system. PROJECT PHILOSOPHY
Pigeon Park Savings Credit Union (PPS) provides financial services to marginalized low-income residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. PPS attempts to overcome financial exclusion by facilitating access to personal banking services at minimal cost, circumventing the need for community residents to rely on fringe banking services. PPS provides residents with support to address barriers to accessing financial services and engages residents in financial literacy education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The job includes, but is not limited to, the following:
· Perform member transactions consistent with established standards so that a high level of quality service delivery is achieved.
· Identify and assess member needs to provide appropriate products and services.
· Apply branch service standards, policies, procedures and controls to meet compliance requirements and mitigate risk.
· Process checking and savings deposits: verify cash and endorsements, receive proper identification for cash back, and issue receipts of deposit.
· Verify deposited checks and determine proper funds availability based on regulation requirements and complete Hold Notices.
· Process savings withdrawals.
· Cash checks: verify endorsement, receive proper identification, and ensure validity.
· Provide information in regards to interest rates, service charges and account histories while complying with disclosure requirements, regulations and privacy policies.
· Count and roll loose coins.
· Issue personal money orders and cashier’s checks.
· Process cash advances.
· Identify counterfeit currency.
· Maintain appropriate currency logs.
· Balance daily, including periodic batching of cashed checks.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
· Previous experience balancing cash and cheques at a financial institution or retail establishment an asset.
· Direct working experience in the DTES population and diverse experience in housing, clinical and co-‐managed projects.
· Must demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity of issues in financial literacy of marginalized populations.
· Must be exceptionally detail minded in order to perform member transactions consistent with established standards so that a high quality of service delivery is achieved.
· Required to interact, usually by telephone, with Vancity employees, other financial institutions, other agencies and the general public. Proper telephone etiquette essential.
· Basic knowledge of financial procedures and Vancity services and products a asset.
· Must be bondable.
· Ability to work in a team environment.
· Excellent conflict de-‐escalation skills that consider a variety of factors including racial triggers, mental health and addiction issues.
· Familiarity with a variety of drug overdose symptoms and appropriate protocols and procedures -‐ Current CPR, First Aid, Narcan, Overdose Management, training is a must.
· Knowledge of the continuum of care and broader relevant services in the community and beyond
· Applies superior judgment: Solutions focused individual with strong research abilities and excellent problem solving skills:
· Excellent organizational & multi tasking skills in a chaotic and high pressure environment
