Position Summary:
The Field Surveyor will lead and manage all aspects of survey operations across multiple heavy civil
construction projects. This role ensures that survey data is accurate, timely, and integrated efficiently
into construction workflows. The Field Surveyor will oversee field survey crews, maintain equipment
and software standards, and provide strategic input for pre-construction planning and on-site
execution.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage survey crews across multiple project sites.
- Coordinate and execute survey work for heavy civil projects including lot grading, road
- construction, landfills, and railway development.
- Manage the preparation and quality control of survey deliverables such as topographic surveys,
- as-builts, layout, and volumetric calculations.
- Liaise with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Engineers to ensure survey requirements
- are met accurately and efficiently.
- Review and manage project design data (including Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, and
- XML/DXF files) and convert it into field-ready Machine Control formats.
- Ensure survey equipment (GNSS, total stations, levels, data collectors) is maintained,
- calibrated, and operating to manufacturer standards.
- Manage and standardize digital workflows using Trimble Business Center (TBC), Civil 3D, and
- other survey and CAD software.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and best practices in survey methodology
- and construction standards.
- Develop and maintain QA/QC processes for survey work.
- Track and report daily progress of survey activities to the project management team.
- Collaborate with subcontractors and external consultants to coordinate survey data sharing and
- verification.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Centre (TBC), and other relevant surveying
- software.
- Experience working with machine control systems for earthworks and equipment guidance.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, earthworks operations, and construction
- survey requirements.
- Experience with drone operations and advanced drone licensure (required).
