Abiona Centre (“the Centre”) is an award-winning, accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre that is a multi-service, non-profit, unionized, community agency located in the east end of Toronto. The Centre is committed to nurturing empowerment, independence and growth for young pregnant and parenting women, children and families in a non-judgmental, inclusive environment by providing a residential care and treatment program; supportive transitional housing; on-site high school program, community housing support and referral services; and maternal infant mental health programs and services. We do this by working collaboratively as a multi-disciplinary team with community partners to provide holistic programs and support that respond to mental health, education and transitional needs. The Centre also operates an EarlyON Child and Family Centre and an Early Learning Centre. All the programs and services are open to families, young women and their children living in the broader community.
The Family Support Worker (FSW) provides Child and Youth work practice to residents with specific attention to life-skills training, building the therapeutic milieu and preparation for independent living. The Family Support Worker works collaboratively with other Centre staff and external partners to address the complex needs of clients.
The Family Support Worker may be assigned to the Live In Treatment or Transitional Housing programs, and reports to the Supervisor, Live In Treatment or Transitional Housing programs and makes decision in consultation with his or her supervisor. This position helps to supervise students placements and volunteers in the team

Term: Permanent Full-time (40 hours/week)
Rate of Pay: $52,064 per annum

Reports to: Night Supervisor, Live-in Treatment and Transitional Housing Program
Qualification:
- Child and Youth Worker Diploma or related Bachelor’s degree
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR and CPI
- At least three (3) years related experience.
- General knowledge of the developmental needs of infants, children and youth
- Ability to create the development of the therapeutic milieu in program settings.
- Ability to measure and evaluate client outcomes
- Excellent group facilitation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work as part of team as well as independently
- Good communication skills
- Ability to write and document clearly and concisely
- Ability to work using a collaborative approach
- Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act in LIT settings Knowledge of group dynamics and behavior management
- Awareness and experience of cultural diversity
- Proficient with word processing, data collection systems and email software.
Working Condition:
- Shift work – day, evening
- Physical demands – lifting, walking, climbing stairways, bending, carrying items as required by program needs (e.g., lifting a child under in the care of the program).
