Overview
Our community salmon hatchery is seeking an environmental interpreter to share information about the natural world with summer visitors. Topics may include knowledge about pacific salmon, ecosystems, wildlife, plants, indigenous cultures and more. The ideal candidate will have some previous knowledge, have strong communication skills and a passion for the outdoors. This role will also require some supervision of younger staff, event planning, running kids programs, routine site maintenance, caring for Chinook salmon fry and more. The job takes place outside and is situated in a cedar-hemlock forest along the banks of the pristine Shuswap River.
Duties
- Information sharing with summer visitors about local ecological topics
- Assist with event planning and implementation
- Routine site maintenance of grounds and salmon hatchery
- Plan and provide assistance in the delivery of educational programming
- Assist with Social media marketing
Requirements
- Proficiency in English
- Must provide Criminal Record Check for working with the vulnerable sector
- First Aid an asset
- Knowledge in environmental sciences an asset
- Must be willing to work outdoors in all conditions
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience working with children an asset
Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 8 weeks
Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 per week
