Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Inclusive Excellence, the incumbent actively implements McGill’s strategic equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) plans in line with McGill’s core mission, principles, policies, and regulations. Works to ensure smooth and constructive collaboration among key participating units, liaising with external community partners, and strengthening synergy among these units. Develop equity training, evaluate data collection, and promote programs on social media.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop employment equity initiatives through lead roles in employee resource groups (ERGs) and the employment equity HR community of practice, and by developing and delivering equity training for multiple University constituents, including but not limited to hiring managers, HR Advisors, department Chairs.
  • Connect and collaborate with McGill employee associations and unions with a view to promoting employment equity initiatives and outcomes.
  • Contribute actively to advance McGill’s fulfillment of employment equity commitments as outlined in key EDI plans and reports (ie The McGill Accessibility Strategy; the Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism; The EDI Strategic Plan; The Report of the Provost’s Task Force on Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Education)
  • Oversee data collection and analysis regarding McGill’s employment equity survey with a view to identifying and correcting gaps in representation.
  • Support University units in their efforts to develop and implement employment equity initiatives, including through advising academic and administrative leaders about best practices to ensure equity in process and outcomes vis-à-vis recruitment, hiring, promotion, and retention.
  • Liaise with external community partners (e.g., (including local community organizations serving underrepresented groups; Quebec Interuniversity Equity Diversity Inclusion Network (RIQEDI); Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education (CAPDHHP) etc.) to support broad recruitment efforts and to increase representation within McGill’s workforce.
  • Build and develop relationships with networks, partnerships, and communities of practice within the University, to identify, foster, and apply best practices with respect to employment equity across McGill.
  • Participate in the reporting responsibilities to McGill governance bodies and to external bodies, notably La Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse and the Federal Contractors Program, demonstrating accountability to McGill’s employment equity obligations, initiatives, and outcomes.
  • Create, draft and revise communications that are delivered online, in print, through presentations, and and various media, including social media, to raise awareness about McGill’s strategic EDI plans and commitments.
  • Participate in internal workgroups and subcommittees (ie HR ABR Working Group, EDIC Subcommittees etc)
  • Plan and organize equity commemorative events (ie International Day of Persons with Disabilities etc) and communications campaigns in collaboration with equity team colleagues.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Experience in equity work, notably in connection with equity in the workplace. Experience working in higher education. Proven ability to work in a PC environment using MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook). Excellent communication skills in English and French spoken and written. Proven ability to work with individuals at all levels. HR certification an asset
