The Opportunity
The City of St. Albert is recruiting 2 individuals to join our Policing Services team as Emergency Communications Operators.
Reporting to the Senior Emergency Communications Operator, this position will be responsible for being the first point of contact for all incoming calls to the St. Albert RCMP Detachment, including all Municipal Enforcement and 911 Emergency calls.
Responsibilities

Gathering and disseminating accurate information is a key link between the public and the police services.

Complaint taking, dispatching, answering emergency calls and providing assistance to the general public at the front counter and over the telephone.

Utilizing detachment radio equipment, performing CPIC entries, preparing court documents and creating/dispatching Municipal Enforcement files.
- Maintenance and retrieval tasks for various RCMP computer systems.
Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 together with prior policing or dispatching experience and strong computer skills are necessary.
- At least one (1) year of call-taking/dispatching experience is preferred.
- Certification from an Emergency Communications Program is considered an asset.
- Experience with RCMP computer programs and familiarity with the RCMP environment is a definite asset.
- The ability to deal with people in a polite, courteous and informed manner is essential. The ability to stay calm in a variety of high stress, demanding situations is required, as well as the ability to prioritize and multitask.
Hours of Work
12-hour shifts. 7:00am–7:00p.m or 7:00 pm–7:00 am Shifts may be altered to meet operational needs. The regular hourly work schedule is based on eighteen hundred and seventy-two (1872) hours annually.
Compensation
The salary ranges from $64,920.96 - $ 78,960.96 per annum ($34.68 – $42.18 per hour), including a comprehensive benefits package with a Flexible Spending Account and Pension Plan.
