Our GP911 Department is looking for dedicated Emergency Communications Officers to join the team.


Position Responsibilities

Health, Wellness & Safety

  • The employee is responsible and accountable for knowing and operating within the City’s Health & Safety Policy and GP911’s standard operating procedures, guidelines and policies.
  • Identify workplace hazards.
  • Participate in monthly safety audits, providing feedback and solutions.

Emergency Response

  • Receive, evaluate and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls and operate multiple communication systems, including two-way radios, Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, and other relevant technologies.
  • Dispatch personnel and units from the appropriate services and provide communications, liaison services, operational support, and inter-agency coordination.
  • Provide callers with appropriate Pre-arrival and Post-dispatch Instructions.
  • Support operational needs outside of regularly scheduled hours.
  • Monitor the safety of front-line responders.
  • Analyze events, assess risks, and adapt to high-pressure situations with shifting priorities.
  • Maintain documentation and provide continuous updates on various events.

Training

  • Actively participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program and meets industry standards of performance.
  • Actively participate in competency-based dispatch maintenance and progression training.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate job and career related training and educational events as well as appropriate department related planning and informational meetings.
  • Maintains proficiency in the operation of all necessary technology to fulfil job requirements, including proficiency on specific computer programs and software, and knowledge of technical processes and equipment in use in the Emergency Communications Centre.

General

  • Assist in training new employees and participate in ongoing quality assurance reviews and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta 9-1-1 Standards and GP911 policies and procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of morals, ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Maintain proficiency with relevant computer systems.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of relevant hardware and software systems.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews.
  • Provide operational support and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

(Minimum qualifications required to apply for this position)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Aptitude assessments
  • GP911 Training Evaluation
  • Hearing, vision, psychological and suitability screening, including social media checks
  • Obtain an Enhanced Security Clearance

Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 21 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.


Compensation

Starting salary $37.72 per hour as per the IAFF Agreement.
