POSITION: PACK LEADER - contract position
Douglas Dog Care is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and professional individual to join our team!
Not only do you love dogs, but you are eager to learn more about understanding dog behaviour, and body language, and you are eager to learn from an experienced professional to grow your skills and to grow in your role with us. You have experience working with or caring for dogs, whether your own family dog, or ones you have cared for. You also love the outdoors and are happy to adventure in all weather conditions, year-round.
In this part-time role, you will be responsible for adventuring with and caring for 3-6 dogs, transporting them to our hiking locations throughout the Lower Mainland, and engaging in training drills while ensuring the dog's safety and well-being.
Schedule:
- Each shift is on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9AM - 1PM
- Once all of the dogs are picked up by you between 9AM - 9:45AM, you make your way to our adventure location (West Vancouver, Pacific Spirit Park, Spanish Banks Beach, etc.)
- Each pack adventure is between 90-120 minutes, which you are responsible for conducting and hiking, and creating training opportunities through each step
- Then the dogs are dropped off at home between 12PM-1PM
Requirements:
- MUST OWN/LEASE a large SUV/Van car to transport the dogs to and from each adventure
- Have a valid driver's license and car insurance, and can be legally insured and bonded
- Speak fluent English and have a customer focused demeanour
- MUST have previous experience with dogs/animals
Responsibilities:
- Hike with 3-6 dogs of various sizes and breeds, ensuring they receive adequate exercise and mental stimulation for a safe and fun adventure
- Pick up and drop off each dog from their home to then transport them to each location
- Be responsible for keys, house codes, and accessing others’s homes when retrieving each dog
- Follow specific walking routes and schedules as directed by the company
- Monitor dogs during walks for any signs of distress or discomfort, addressing any issues promptly
- Clean up after dogs during walks - which may involve hosing them down
- Take high-quality photos and videos of each dog throughout each adventure
Qualifications:
- Previous experience with dog handling or pet care
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to manage multiple dogs at once while ensuring their safety and well-being
- Excellent time management skills to adhere to scheduled walks
- Must be physically fit, as the role requires walking for extended periods and handling dogs of varying sizes
- A genuine love for animals and commitment to providing high-quality care is essential
