Job description:
Sid Grabell Contracting is growing, and we're looking to add a skilled Directional Driller / Equipment Operator to our team. This is a full-time position for an experienced individual who brings a strong work ethic, prioritizes safety, and communicates effectively on the job.
Applicants should have experience in construction and operating a directional drill. The ability to operate additional heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, backhoes is considered an asset. This is a hands-on role that requires both technical skill and a commitment to safety and teamwork. Additionally, the applicant should be familiar with construction industry safety standards and procedures to ensure project safety.
Consideration will be given to applicants who hold a DZ or an AZ license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities:
- Operate directional drill equipment to install underground utilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, backhoes considered an asset.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently
- Transport machinery and equipment to and from job sites, including safely loading/unloading onto trailers, securing with proper strapping techniques, identifying weights as to not exceed vehicle requirements
- Perform daily circle checks of machinery and report defects promptly
- Read and interpret utility locates and site plans to ensure safe drilling operations
- Assist various tradespersons in construction activities
- Operate basic hand tools and powered hand tools
- Maintain machines (clean, grease, inspect) as per direction from the on-staff mechanic
- Carry out day to day labour tasks as instructed by the supervisor.
- Daily housekeeping and site clean-up
- Ensure all safety procedures are followed at all times
- Other responsibilities and accountabilities as assigned
Health and Safety:
- Operate machines using safe work habits
- Maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment
- Complete all onsite safety documentation including but not limited to equipment inspections, jobsite hazard analysis, tailboard talks, traffic control, etc.
- Maintain working knowledge of all Health & Safety policies
- Support and promote all aspects of the corporate Health & Safety program
- Report all accidents/incidents promptly, participate in investigation & act on recommendations
Qualifications
- 3+ years’ experience in construction
- Must hold a valid DZ or AZ license with a clean driver abstract.
- Safety certification preferred (Book 7, First Aid/CPR)
- Hardworking, motivated, and reliable
- Quick learner, team player and capable of working under tight deadlines and in a fast pace environment
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Act and regulations
- Excellent communication skills in English
Working Conditions
- Fast-paced environment

- Must be able to physically lift material up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to hear and distinguish emergency signals and instructions
- Working outside in all seasonal conditions, you will be exposed to environmental conditions such as hot and cold temperatures, work areas that are dirty, dusty, wet and noisy
- Must be able to work independently or in a team environment
- Overtime may be required
