Role Description
ERA is seeking a proactive and analytical professional to join our team as a fractional (50%) Data Management and Security Specialist for a 12-month contract. This pivotal role ensures that ERA’s data governance and cybersecurity practices are robust, compliant, and future-ready. The successful candidate will oversee our information governance frameworks, safeguard ERA’s data and digital assets, support IT audits and assessments, and lead initiatives to improve IT systems and operations.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Corporate Services and works closely with the managed service provider (MSP) to deliver and evolve ERA’s IT Strategy Roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee data governance frameworks, policies, processes, and controls to ensure data integrity, consistency, and compliance with operational and legislative requirements.
- Recommend and implement enhancements to data management practices that reflect organizational size, risk tolerance, and strategic goals.
- Lead cybersecurity efforts, including risk assessments, threat detection, incident response, and investigation of cyber events.
- Develop and maintain internal knowledge of evolving data governance, privacy, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Support the development and implementation of ERA’s IT Strategy Roadmap in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify and address gaps in ERA’s data security and IT environments; recommend and implement control improvements.
- Liaise with ERA’s managed service provider on technical projects and ensure alignment with ERA’s strategic objectives.
- Coordinate and facilitate ERA’s annual external IT audit and ensure the timely implementation of audit recommendations.
- Draft quarterly briefings to inform the Executive and Board on IT, data security, and emerging technology issues.
- Manage SharePoint retention, metadata, and deletion schedules in accordance with FOIP and compliance standards.
- Lead operationalization and testing of ERA’s disaster recovery procedures through annual tabletop exercises.
- Oversee ERA’s SOC compliance readiness and ensure proper documentation and coordination with external auditors.
- Champion the development and delivery of training programs that promote secure, ethical, and effective use of technology.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and lead the execution of digital solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related discipline.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in data management, IT strategy, and cybersecurity.
- Demonstrated success in delivering corporate IT strategy, policy development, and audit preparation.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 and SharePoint environments; experience with metadata and records management.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity protocols, including Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Experience in project management with the ability to lead and execute complex initiatives.
- Certification in Microsoft Azure and/or cybersecurity (e.g., CISSP, CISM) is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with networking and IT systems administration.
- Exposure to data analytics tools or demonstrated interest in building analytical capabilities.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong systems thinking, creative problem-solving, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Pay: $5,200.00-$6,000.00 per month
