About the job
In this role you will develop, conduct, participate and implement wildlife research and monitoring projects as a basis for resource and wildlife management decision-making, which may include:- developing and maintaining project timelines, budgets and goals
- coordinating and communicating with team members, partners, stakeholders
- reviewing and analyzing data collected for quality and accuracy
- preparing reports, health and safety protocols, scientific literature, presentations and workshops
- sharing data and information to inform decision making
- participating in fieldwork, as needed, to collect data and samples
- staying up-to-date in the field of wildlife research, management and conservation
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.Technical expertise:
- You have an understanding of the biology, ecology and management of wildlife.
- You have knowledge and understanding of various research methods used in wildlife biology, management and conservation, including field research techniques, data collection and data analysis.
- You are proficient with common office productivity software for word processing, spreadsheet manipulation, database management and presentation creation.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
- You have interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a team, and to clearly and effectively collaborate on project objectives with a variety of stakeholders, partners and Indigenous groups.
- You have the ability to prepare and submit progress reports, develop health and safety protocols, prepare written material for publication as technical reports and/or primary scientific literature to communicate findings to other science, management and policy staff in government, as well as academia and stakeholders.
Project management:
- You have initiative, leadership skills and expertise in project management principles and techniques, including project planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, budgeting and financial management.
- You have demonstrated experience with planning and implementing field research programs, including project design, implementation, and evaluation.
- You have demonstrated organizational and time management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
- You have strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and address challenges and to find creative solutions.
- You have the ability to independently conduct literature analyses, jurisdictional scans to remain up to date in the field of wildlife research, management and conservation, and incorporate this knowledge into project design and implementation.
Indigenous community:
- You have an understanding of the cultural and historical context of Indigenous communities, and sensitive to their values, beliefs, and customs.
- You are able to engage with Indigenous communities in a respectful and inclusive manner, and to build positive and respectful relationships.
