SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the Program Manager, Ecosystem and Climate Change Strategies, the Coordinator works collaboratively on projects that further CVC’s corporate climate change mitigation and adaptation objectives, acts as a point person for climate change initiatives and enhances internal and external climate change communications and coordinates and supports implementation of Fifty by Thirty, CVC’s corporate climate change mitigation plan. The position is responsible for estimating CVC’s corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions using credible standard methods for tracking GHG emission reduction targets. Working collaboratively with asset management and implementation staff, they develop plans, policies and strategic guidance for GHG emission reduction. The coordinator consults on internal and external strategy, policy, and plan development, engages municipal partners to help them achieve their climate objectives, reviews external communications, and contributes to strategic planning and evaluation of corporate social responsibility initiatives.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Post-Secondary Education in environmental sciences and studies, climate change science, and risk management.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in climate change mitigation and adaptation, risk assessments, climate data or relevant sciences
- Minimum 1-year supervisory experience
- Knowledge of existing municipal, provincial and federal plans and guiding documents and current science in climate change
- Demonstrated experience with carbon accounting using certified Canadian methods
- Demonstrated project and contract management skills
- Demonstrated experience with research, report writing and communication
- Team leadership and facilitation capabilities
- Ability to liaise effectively with conservation authority staff, partner agencies and other external stakeholders.
- Strong ability to work independently and autonomously, aptitude for continuous learning, research, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Energy Management training or certification an asset
- Experience with sustainable procurement an asset
- Experience in grant writing and funding proposals an asset
- Experience working with external stakeholders and facilitation an asset
SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS
- Lead Fifty by Thirty, CVC’s corporate climate change mitigation plan, as well as corporate climate change adaptation planning
- Lead corporate climate change communications, and maintain and disseminate state-of-the-art knowledge in climate change science
- Prepare tools, guidelines and other resources needed to implement climate change plans and strategic plan recommendations
- Lead analysis and reporting on corporate GHG emissions, including tracking and updating GHG reduction targets
- Partner with CVC fleet, facilities, asset management and conservation areas staff on short and long-term plans to achieve corporate GHG reduction targets
- Support tracking, implementation and goal setting for corporate social responsibility initiatives and corporate Strategic Plan initiatives
- Provide project management for climate change mitigation and adaptation projects, working with staff and consultants
- Prepare reports and communications materials, such as guidance documents, terms of reference, funding proposals and technical reports related to climate change
- Conduct presentations and engagement sessions to solicit input and communicate newly developed tools, plans, policies and results related to climate change
- Develop climate change communication materials, including website content, guidance documents, fact sheets and press releases for various target audiences.
- Provide expertise and input on internal and external climate change related technical advisory committees
- Support or lead funding proposals for corporate climate change initiatives
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships and client relations with municipal government staff, consultants, utilities, and other agencies/groups
- Supervise Technician, Assistant or Intern positions, as needed
- Other duties and projects as appropriate to the position
