Work Performed:
- Leader and main contact for the City's climate change response, developing long-term planning strategies and corporate frameworks to support City and community initiatives.
- Utilizing stakeholder engagement to establish and refine strategies to meet the goals and objectives of the City's overall climate action plans.
- Research, develop, recommend, and implement community focused programs to encourage carbon reduction in areas, such as active transportation, building retrofits and construction.
- Administer and support public education and outreach programs to promote the reduction of greenhouse gases and related climate change and sustainability initiatives.
- Prepares RFPs and manages contracts with consultants, in support of climate initiatives in conjunction with the City's existing procurement practices and assest
- Provide technical input into projects and programs to maximize opportunities for innovation, inter-departmental synergies, and overall carbon reduction.
- Prepare grant applications as part of the City's federal and provincial funding strategies.
- Develop internal policies and procedures to ensure the City's adherence to provincial and federal policy and related legislation.
- Update corporate and community greenhouse gas emission inventories and assist internal departments in assessing individual performance related to carbon reduction goals.
- Prepare Council reports and present updates to City Council
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- University Degree in Environmental Science or Studies, Climate Change or related discipline.
- Four (4) years of experience performing duties related to the above-mentioned disciplinces.
- Working knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: Ontario Climate Change Action Plan, Canada's A Healthy Environment and a Healthy Economy Climate Plan, Ontario Climate Change Mitigation and Low Carbon Economy Act (Bill 172), Green Energy Act; O. Reg. 397-11, Energy Management and Demand Management Plans and the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act.
Working Conditions and Enviornment
- This position works 35 hours a week, 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday, however the incumbent may also be required to work outside of regular business hours to attend meetings, public open houses or community events.
- The City offers a Hybrid Remote Working Arrangement, allowing for up to two days working remotely per week.
- The City offers an excellent comprehensive benefit package, and participation in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS) pension plan.
