The Role
Reporting to the VP, Finance and Accounting, this role involves overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, financial analysis, and reporting. This position involves managing a team of accountants, ensuring accurate and timely financial data, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Lead a highly engaged team that loves where they work.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation in accordance with ASPE.
- Oversee a high volume of accounts payable with a weekly payment cycle.
- Manage accounting software systems including Acumatica, TrailD and Dext.
- Review CRA correspondence & audits where necessary.
- Assist with annual audit requirements.
- Develop and implement comprehensive budgets and proformas including analysis and forecasting to identify cost savings and process improvement.
- Prepare and present financial reports to management, highlighting key insights and trends.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and internal controls.
- Drive process improvements in accounting procedures and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Engage with development and construction teams to better processes and drive results.
- Assist in ad-hoc projects and initiatives related to accounting, as needed.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- CPA designation is mandatory for this role.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience leading a team.
- Highly motivated to learn in general and specifically about development and construction.
- Highly organized and enjoy managing multiple tasks and responsibilities
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and an accounting software (Acumatica is an asset).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Additional requirements:
- Satisfactory criminal and credit record check.
Compensation Package:
- Annual Salary: $95,000-$130,000 depending on experience.
- Annual Bonus: Highstreet pays an annual bonus based on company performance. A typical bonus for a Controller is approximately 28% of annual salary. Determined annually, the bonus could be more or less depending on results.
- Investment Opportunity: Highstreet encourages all employees to share in our success by offering the opportunity to invest in the projects we build and operate. To encourage employee investment, Highstreet matches employee investment at 50% up to 20% of annual salary (i.e. for every $1 invested by the employee, Highstreet invests $0.50 on the employee’s behalf). The investment is TFSA and RRSP eligible.
