Summary
We are seeking a skilled Concrete Finisher (Union Position) to join our dynamic team at Islington Nurseries Ltd. located in Toronto. This role is crucial to our mission of providing top-notch construction services, ensuring that our projects meet the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
Responsibilities:
- Builds, erects and set forms for various concrete structures and foundations
- Shovel concrete into forms and/or wall panels
- Prep for various types of pours including but not limited to sidewalks, curbs, stairs, walkways, loading docks, accessibility ramps, patios and driveways
- Assists with site prep work as necessary
- Performs duties of cutting and placing reinforcing wire mesh, preparing appropriate sand and cement mixtures and placing, pouring and rough levelling of concrete.
- Smooth and finish concrete by floating, troweling, edging and brushing in accordance with specifications and specified standard
- Builds and/or takes apart bracing, barricades, forms, scaffolding, and temporary structures
- Collaborate with team members on-site to ensure timely project completion
- Perform rebar installation and concrete forming tasks
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Assist with heavy lifting and material handling as needed
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations on the job site
Requirements:
- 5 years concrete construction experience
- Experience on various concrete pours
- In depth knowledge of concrete mix types and uses
- Must be familiar with tools for trade
- In depth knowledge of standard prep work practices
- Strong work ethic – reliable and punctual
- Ability to work long hours
- Able to work with minimal supervision
- Able to work in all temperatures and weather conditions
- Ability to be a visible team-player and have excellent interpersonal skills
- Able to assume responsibility and have a flexible team-player attitude
- Effective communication skills and teamwork orientation
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to concrete work
- Familiarity with concrete finishing techniques and tools
- Experience working on commercial landscape construction sites
- Physical stamina for heavy lifting and manual labor
- Knowledge of safety protocols in construction environments
