We’re looking for a Concept Lab Support Technician Co-op to join our Vancouver office. In this role, you’ll be responsible for project tasks in the Concept Lab such as preparing test samples, executing structural testing, filing project data, post-processing test results, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Primary Responsibilities:
- Correspond clearly and concisely with design team members and external parties as required.
- Monitor time allocated for design tasks and advise of status.
- Assist in the design, setup, calibration, and validation of test fixtures and experimental apparatus.
- Support instrumentation setup including strain gauges, load cells, and displacement sensors.
- Document observations, anomalies, and results during and after testing.
- Understand and follow test procedures from ASTM standards and bespoke test designs.
- Post-process test data and produce test reports for approval.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, coordinate calibration schedules, and report maintenance issues.
- Follow best practices and wear appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) for each task.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in lab workflow, documentation, and testing efficiency.
- Support inventory tracking of materials, tools, and consumables required for lab operations.
- Adhere to confidentiality and data handling protocols when working with proprietary or sensitive information.
- Return all tools to the appropriate location and clear working areas at the end of each day.

- You will report to the Concept Lab Manager.
What you bring to the table:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline;
Completed at least two years of study in a relevant program. - Must be eligible for co-op/internship placement through their academic institution.
- Prior lab or hands-on mechanical experience (academic, project-based, or work experience).
- Understanding of basic mechanical and structural principles, including stress, strain, and material behaviour.
- Eligibility to work in Canada and ability to travel to the lab location daily.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical assemblies.
- Basic data analysis skills; ability to interpret graphs and understand measurement units (e.g., load, displacement, stress, strain).
- Experience with Excel and/or data acquisition software is an asset.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and test specifications.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Commitment to safety practices and ability to follow lab protocols.
- Physical ability to lift moderate loads, stand for extended periods, and perform hands-on technical work.
