Position Available: Complex Needs Support Worker for Child with Complex Medical Needs

Elysian Ventures is seeking a compassionate and experienced Complex Needs Support Worker to provide respite care for a medically complex 17-month-old child in a home in South-Central Edmonton. The child has global developmental delay (developmental age of 3-4 months) and requires assistance with all daily activities, including feeding, bathing, diaper changes, and medical care. He is NG-tube fed, has epilepsy, and requires regular medication and seizure management, including suctioning and the use of a bag-valve mask during seizures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medical Care: Administer regular and rescue medications, assist with suctioning, monitor for seizures, and provide general care as needed.
- Daily Living Support: Assist with NG-tube feeding, bathing, diaper changes, and bedtime routines.
- Community Outings: Accompany the family on outings, such as to the grocery store, church, and swimming. The ability to support the child in public settings is essential.
- General Supervision: Ensure safety, monitor health, and provide comfort and attention throughout the day.
- Documentation: Complete necessary documentation during shifts.
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience: with complex medical needs.
- Qualities: Energetic, kind, compassionate, and loving, with a genuine passion for caring for a child with significant medical needs.
- Medical Training: Current First Aid Level C or BLS CPR certification. Experience with NG-tube feeding and seizure management is preferred.
- Vaccinations: Due to the child's immunocompromised condition, up-to-date immunizations, including Covid-19 vaccinations, are required.
- Safety Protocols: Must adhere to strict health and safety guidelines, including staying home when sick, wearing a mask on outings, and refraining from smoking or vaping around the home.
- Language: Fluency in both spoken and written English is required.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Flexible Hours: Ideally a mix of weekdays and weekends, with varying hours.
- Duration: Long-term (1 year), with potential for extension.
Location:
South-central Edmonton. Preference will be given to local applicants, but we are open to considering applicants from outside the area. Please note that transportation to the location is not provided.
