Taber Special Needs Society has been in existence since 1987. The Society provides support to adults with developmental disabilities. The Society advocates and supports an inclusive environment both for the individuals and the staff that support them. There will be on the job training and job shadowing.

Rotation details: There are 5 part-time positions in this residence. Please indicate which position you are interested in. They are;

1) This position is 20 hours per week, hours worked are 4pm to 9pm with every other weekend off. This is a two- week rotation with; week one- Sunday, Monday, Thurs, Friday; week 2- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

2) This is an evening position with the hours of 4pm to 9pm 2 days per week for a total of 15 hours. This is a two-week rotation with every 2nd weekend off. Week one is Tues, Wednesday, Saturday. Week two is Sunday, Thursday, Friday.

3) This position is 8am to 4pm 2 days per week on a two-week rotation for a total of 16 hours per week. Our weeks run Sunday to Saturday. Week one would be Friday, Saturday- week 2 would be Sunday, Friday. You would be working One weekend on, one weekend off.

4) This position is 8am to 4pm 2 days per week on a two-week rotation for a total of 16 hours per week. Week one would be Sunday, Monday- week 2 would be Monday, Saturday. You would be working One weekend on, one weekend off.

5) This is an awake nightshift position that is 16 hours per week with every other weekend off. This is based on a two-week rotation as follows: Week one- Sunday, Thursday; week two- Tuesday, Saturday. The hours are 11pm to 7am.

Overview: We are looking for a Community Support Worker to join our team in supporting a busy, active, and fun-loving young man! He is currently 20 years old and living on his own with assistance to support him throughout the entirety of his day; inclusive of working on established goals, engaging in recreational activities, utilizing opportunities for him to connect with peers, community members and to his indigenous culture. This young man enjoys a high level of activity (i.e., walking for two km, swimming, jumping/running) or lower key activities such as sitting in a calming environment, watching a movie or going for a drive. This variance of activity level depends on his interaction and responses to what is happening with him in his day. He has his own way to communicate as he is not verbal. It is evident he is understanding of what is being expressed to him; especially when he is in a joking/teasing mood. As a support worker you are required to be fully engaged with him during his active times, when providing in-depth personal care and assisting him with skill development. As a team member, you will play a valued role in providing input into goal planning, support needs and best practice strategies for this young man. You will have training/educational opportunities to learn and grow in this role. To provide optimal support to this young man throughout the day and evening; you will work with a co-staff during scheduled shifts. This provides opportunities to support and learn from one another, as well as contribute to the team as a whole.

Responsibilities: To assist this young man in all aspects of his life; involving him in household chores, meal preparation, doing errands, attending appointments, personal care/hygiene, recreation activities, and being an active member of his community. Supporting this young man to live an active and healthy lifestyle while encouraging independence. He is constantly on the move. Some of the things he enjoys are long walks, going to the park and using the equipment, going swimming, attending local events, and being outside in general. Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of a Wellness Plan in relation to positive approaches, sensory regulation, safety protocols and least restrictive alternatives. Participate in the Person-Centered Planning Process and goal development. Assisting with day-to-day household management, such as cleaning and cooking, grocery shopping, yard work, etc. To be supportive of relationships in his life and his connection to the indigenous culture. Provide and maintain an atmosphere conducive to developing self-esteem and self-confidence. To be responsible for maintaining confidentiality. To provide transportation when required. Maintaining ongoing records regarding progress and achievement and completing all required documentation in a timely manner. To dispense medication as per Taber Special Needs Society’s policies.

Qualifications: Physical ability to walk distances of two kilometers, being able to physically assist with activities such as: swimming, using equipment at a playground and navigating venues (e.g., attending Corn fest). Adaptability to changing circumstances. Flexibility and good communication for working with multiple team members. Be able to work in a loud, noisy environment at times. Ability to work alone or with a co-staff. Training and/or experience with positive approaches, Wellness Plans or other related experience/training is an asset. Proficient in verbal and written English. Basic understanding and use of computer skills. As well as: · be 18 years of age or older. ·possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with proof of $2 million liability insurance. · possess a clean criminal record check with the vulnerable persons sector check.

Experience in the disability sector or health sector is an asset, but not necessary as we provide all training.
