Taber Special Needs Society has been in existence since 1987. The Society provides support to adults with developmental disabilities. The Society advocates and supports an inclusive environment both for the individuals and the staff that support them. There will be on the job training and job shadowing.
Rotation details: Alternate weekends Saturday/Sundays 7a.m.-3p.m.
Overview: Looking for someone to support a kind, visually impaired middle-aged gentleman with his daily living needs in his home. This is a overnight staffed arrangement. He enjoys gardening and watching sports-particularly hockey, doing puzzles and playing board games with friends. He is very social, and likes to be involved in local community activities and events as well as attending wing night at local establishments.
Responsibilities: Upkeep of the home, preparing meals following a healthy menu plan and diet protocols. Medication Administration, Personal care, supporting community involvement and support required to attend church and church activities.
Qualifications: · Be a self-motivated individual with good communication skills using positive approaches. Possess computer skills, ability to be flexible within staff teams /schedule needs (helping out when schedules need coverage due to sickness or holidays). Able to support either social evenings or a quiet slower pace shift winding down from a busy day. Physical ability for lifting, standing and participating in recreational activities and activities involved in providing care to the Individual. As well as: · be 18 years of age or older. ·possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with proof of $2 million liability insurance. · possess a clean criminal record check with the vulnerable persons sector check. · High School Diploma or equivalent. · Proficient in verbal and written English. · Basic understanding and use of computer skills.
Experience in the disability sector or health sector is an asset, but not necessary as we provide all training.
