The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, FCSS Community Supports, this position will be responsible for assisting individuals to identify and leverage their strengths and capacities to address concerns and guides them through the complex system of social supports available to individuals and families experiencing distress.
Responsibilities
- Providing strength-based, action-oriented support, conducting assessments, developing safety plans, and delivering services through various methods while adhering to program standards and offering skill-building and psycho-educational sessions.
- Increasing awareness of programs and services, extends availability beyond regular hours, and expands community navigation support through lodges, the Library and Further Education.
- Partnering with community agencies to provide shelter and support for individuals without housing during extreme weather, with after-hours services at community locations.
Qualifications
- Post Secondary degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Family Studies, or a related field, combined with 5 years of direct experience working with children, youth, families, and seniors, is required. Experience working with vulnerable clients is considered an asset.
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certification preferred but not required.
- Experience in risk assessment, crisis intervention, and safety planning, with a strength-based approach and knowledge of human development and social issues, including delivering skill-building sessions.
- Excellent interpersonal, consultation, public speaking, effective listening, conflict resolution, mediation, facilitation and advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage high-stress situations and relate to diverse groups.
Hours of Work
- An average of 24hrs per week (3 full days). Hours of work can vary from week to week and includes evening and weekend hours.
Compensation
- The wage ranges from $44.63 - $54.93 per hour.
- Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.
