PACHEEDAHT FIRST NATION COMMUNITY SECURITY OFFICER
Themis Security Services Ltd is seeking to hire a qualified and experienced security officer(s) to join our existing team serving Pacheedaht First Nation.
JOB DESCRIPTION
OVERVIEW JOB TITLE: Community Security Officer
REPORTS TO: Themis Security President and Pacheedaht Manager of Emergency Services
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
DAILY OPERATIONS
- The primary duty of a Community Security Officer (CSO) for Pacheedaht First Nation is to respond to and investigate calls for service on the Reserve, properties owned by Pacheedaht First Nation and campsites owned and operated by Pacheedaht First Nation, following up with a detailed written report.
- Operational priorities are focusing on keeping the peace, preventing petty crime, de-escalation of social disturbances, responding to calls for service, enforcing campground rules, etc.
- CSOs proactively support Pacheedaht First Nation’s directives and patrols Pacheedaht First Nation community.
- Other responsibilities for CSO include proactive patrols of roadways, pathways and infrastructure.
- A CSO is expected to work collaboratively with Pacheedaht Emergency Services Team, RCMP, BCEHS, Fire Dept., SAR, Parks Canada, CAF Rangers, Guardians and other first responders, maintaining a good working relationship by assisting with calls that are within the scope of their duties and providing support if/when needed/requested.
- CSO may be assigned to other duties and will be required to collaborate with Pacheedaht First Nation to build relationships as a positive role model especially to the youth.
ADMINISTRATION
- Prepare detailed reports on all events of note, RTCCs as required for RCMP/Crown and prepare necessary documentation for record keeping and follow up by Pacheedaht Emergency Services Manager, including entering of exhibits, and providing witness statements. Liaise and build relationships with external and neighbouring enforcement communities. If required conduct public awareness and information seminars for students and the public.
REQUIREMENTS:
A combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to qualify. A typical way to qualify is equivalency of successful completion of a related diploma or degree (Criminology):
- Must complete Basic Security Training and possess a valid security license issued by Province of BC
- Require a minimum of 3 or more years related work experience representing continuous learning and career progression
- First Aid (OFA II) and CPR-C certification required
- Completion of Indigenous Cultural Safety Program(s) as directed by Pacheedaht Emergency Services Manager.
- Submit to N95 Mask Fit Testing at the Pacheedaht Health Center
- Strong interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy along with proven written and oral communication skills, including public speaking are required
- Experience in law enforcement and/or military is an asset
- Experience in working with First Nations is an asset
OTHER SKILLS & COMPETENCIES: Knowledge of municipal bylaws and provincial statutes, TrackTik (Report management systems) experience, driver safety training, and WHMIS are assets. Strong interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy, articulate written and oral communication skills including public speaking are necessary, as well as a valid BC class 5 driver’s (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
Computer skills in Word and Excel are required. Must be able to obtain and maintain BC private security license.
Must be able to meet the shift requirements; shifts may include evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of a CSO is to support community safety by providing residents and businesses of Pacheedaht First Nation a prompt and reliable service. This involves responding to and investigating complaints by educating and/or enforcing the bylaws, provincial and federal statutes as they apply on Pacheedaht First Nation.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Pay: $27.00-$29.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 37.5 per week
