Job Profile
This is a permanent part-time position as the Civic Facility Attendant in the Community Services Department, reporting to the Supervisor of Facilities – Building Systems. The Civic Facility Attendant position is integral to the success of programs and activities in Civic Campus, including special events, flag ceremonies, market days, arts hub activities, Council meetings, and facility operations. This position will support all on-site facility functions within the Civic Campus location in downtown Cambridge (40-62 Dickson St.), which includes City Hall, Historic City Hall, Farmers’ Market, the new Community Arts Hub, Centre for the Arts, David Durward Centre, Civic Square, and other City owned buildings and infrastructure.
What you will be doing
- Attend the Farmers' Market on Saturdays to support regular operational market duties including vendor support, setup/teardown of tables, and other functions within the market building and civic campus. Direct reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation- Special Events and Market for market days and to for guidance related to the Farmers’ Market Bylaw 161-09.
- Provide customer service, interact with market and Civic Campus attendees, navigate sometimes challenging conversations, diffuse or de-escalate situations where frustrated attendees may be upset. Notify bylaw or security when required.
- Participate in Emergency Management Plan and testing for Civic Campus.
- Assist with setup/teardown of special events at City Hall and Civic Campus including chairs, tables, garbage containers, electrical needs, A/V support, and other on-site setup requirements.
- Complete building and facility inspections daily/weekly/monthly/annually at Civic Campus locations for general maintenance and adequacy of landscape maintenance. When issues are found throughout the inspection, pick up litter or other unwanted debris, perform minor landscape maintenance and manual snow removal as required. Document significant building related deficiencies or concerns and notify the Supervisor of Facilities – Building Systems of any unusual/reportable findings.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance in City owned facilities and buildings for program support, including Council meetings, meeting room setups, and flag raising ceremonies. Duties include restocking janitorial supplies, sweeping, painting, light cleaning duties, empty garbage containers, manual snow removal, room setup, meeting support, flag changes, climbing ladders, and infrastructure for related program activities and maintenance.
- May be required to meet with contractors, occasionally after-hours, for maintenance and operations purposes.
- Read room layouts, building floor plans, and equipment manuals as required for event or room setups as well as required inspection or maintenance.
- Performs outdoor facility maintenance duties on occasion.
- Communicate using email, Teams, phone call, or texting for operations and customer service.
- Review and understand Standard Operating Procedures, Policies, and Bylaws related to the duties of this role.
- This position will have periods of working alone and be expected to complete work to a high standard with minimal supervision.
Education
- Grade 12 OSS Diploma or equivalent
- Valid G Driver’s License
- Building Environmental Services certification and Food Handlers certification considered an asset
Experience and Knowledge
One to two years of previous work-related experience relating to:
- Knowledge and skills for facility operations or special events.
- Building maintenance and understanding of building components throughout the various buildings of the portfolio.
- Teamwork to promote the smooth running and success of facilities.
- Knowledge and application of safety regulations and safe work practices i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS.
- Problem solving with a customer service focus to resolve issues quickly and confidently.
- Positive, progressive, personable, and punctual; allowing for excellent customer service and program delivery.
- Forward thinking, independent worker who is a self-starter and thrives by taking initiative to complete work.

Your compensation
This position is within Grade 2 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an hourly range of $26.03 to $27.67.

Location of position
This position reports to City Hall (50 Dickson St.) Sunday through Monday and the Farmers’ Market (40 Dickson St.).
Hours of work
This position works 25 hours per week, including 7am-3pm Saturdays for the Farmers’ Market. Shifts will be scheduled by the Supervisor of Facilities – Building Systems, with shift hours between 7am-11pm, primarily scheduled in the evenings 3:30pm to 8pm Tuesday to Friday.
