This position is responsible for the development and implementation of high quality and accessible recreation programs at Westside for children (ages 6-12Y) and their families. The Children's Programs & Camps Supervisor oversees the areas of: Day Camps (Summer and Year Round), Skating Programs for all ages, Recreation Programs for ages 6-12, and the Volunteer Program.
This position oversees 3 year round supervisory staff, plus 1-2 seasonal supervisory staff. This is a hands on supervisory position who will be responsible for ensuring the day to day operations are executed at high level of excellence. This position reports to the Manager of Children & Youth.
The Supervisor of Children's Programs and Camps is responsible for the following area’s/services:
- Programming –Children/Family (recreational sports, arts/crafts, special events)
- Volunteer Program
- Skating Programs for all ages
- Day Camps – PD days, Summer, Winter and Spring
The duties for this position include:
- Support and promote development for all programs and services, research, management and evaluation to ensure delivery of leading edge programming
- Assist in the financial accountability including budget development, short and long term goal planning and financial management of area’s of responsibility.
- Recruitment, hiring, and training of qualified staff
- Provide leadership and a team environment
- Staff supervision and performance evaluation
- Provide responsive customer focused service
- Develop, implementation and analysis of programs and trends related to Children & Youth
- Child skill development programs that are non-competitive
- Knowledge of community programs and identify the gaps to minimize duplication of programs
- Creating an atmosphere where participation and interaction is positive
- Ensure programs meet the strategic plan and vision of Westside Recreation
Risk Management
- Implement the safety and wellbeing of staff and users of the facility, as well as overall cleanliness and good repair of facilities/equipment
- To assist in the department seasonal and annual safety inspections, including updated WHMIS information and Safe Work Procedures
- Follow all general facility rules related to general behavior, demeanor, use and care of facility areas
- Perform first aid as required
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field.
- A minimum of 8 (eight) years experience in a recreation type setting, including 4 years in a supervisory role
- Current CSA Intermediate First Aid/CPR Certification
