Childcare Worker

Saskatchewan Foster Families Association
Regina, Saskatchewan
Part time

Job Type: Casual (8hrs per week)

Schedule: Evening twice a week

About Us:

At the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association (SFFA), we believe every child deserves a stable, nurturing environment where they can thrive. We work alongside foster families to provide the resources and support needed to help children in care feel seen, heard, and valued. We are currently seeking a Part-Time Mentor — a compassionate, reliable individual who can make a meaningful one-on-one connection with children and youth in foster care.

Position Overview:
As a child or youth Mentor, you will serve as a consistent, positive role model in a child’s life. In this one-to-one role, your primary focus is building a supportive relationship with a child or youth, encouraging their personal growth, emotional well-being, and confidence. This position may include participating in daily activities, helping with schoolwork, supporting life skills development, and engaging in meaningful conversations. A successful mentor is flexible, patient, and committed to making a long-term impact.

Note:
Due to the specific needs and best interests of the children currently being supported in this home, we are seeking a male-identifying mentor to provide one-on-one guidance and support. This request aligns with the children's care plan and is intended to foster positive role modeling and relational development. We welcome all qualified applicants and are committed to employment equity and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain a consistent, trusting mentoring relationship with a child or youth in care.

  • Engage in one-on-one activities that support the child’s interests, hobbies, and goals.

  • Provide emotional support, encouragement, and guidance through challenges and transitions.

  • Promote positive social skills, confidence, and independence.

  • Support daily routines and tasks that may include homework help, recreational activities, or life skills (e.g., budgeting, cooking, or communication).

  • Assist with occasional transportation to appointments, or outings as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with foster families and SFFA staff to ensure the child’s needs are being met.

  • Respect and maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in childcare or early childhood development, with a preference for experience working with diverse needs and challenges.
  • Must be at least 18years old
  • A commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle and the well-being of children and families.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to provide a recent Criminal Records Check.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Why Join Us?
By joining the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to making a lasting, positive impact on the lives of children and youth in care. If you are passionate about supporting foster families and promoting the well-being of children, this role offers a fulfilling opportunity for growth and development.

Application Process:
We invite individuals who are passionate about making a difference to apply for this rewarding position. While we appreciate all applications, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
