Position Summary
The Child Welfare Worker is responsible for the provision of a broad range of child welfare services including intake, assessment, and clinical intervention with children and their families. They are required to conduct investigations, provide emergency services, make application to the court and ensure that the needs of the children living either in their own home or in care, are met. Child Welfare Workers are assigned to a specific service stream, but may be required to work in multiple or different service streams at any given time.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Be familiar with and provide services in compliance with relevant legislation, ministry regulations and standards, and agency policies and procedures.
- Complete required documentation in accordance with prescribed agency, ministry and legal standards.
- Collaborate with other staff, agencies and professionals in the provision of, and advocacy for, services to children and their families.
- Demonstrated computer skills and good communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to assist with family services caseload, as required.
Qualifications:
- An awareness of Indigenous issues, including knowledge of the communities, family structure, customs and traditions, is an asset.
- SSW, BSW, or MSW degree (or related field) with minimum two years of experience in Social Work.
- Authorized worker preferred.
- Applicants with similar academic qualifications and related experience may be considered.
Required:
- Must possess a valid Class G Ontario Driver's Licence and have access to a reliable vehicle with OPCF6A Insurance endorsement and minimum of $1000,000.00 Liability.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector check, Internal Records Check and Driver’s Abstract.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
- Occasional travel within the region is also required.
