The Bilingual Child Care Worker working with the Child Care team providing programs to parents and their children with a focus on child development, using a variety to teaching methods. Understanding trauma informed approaches and the mental health needs of parents is an asset. SMH works from a participant centered approach for the family unit. Having the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and understanding the importance of supporting both children and parents is important as a team member.
An awareness of the challenge young families face in the culture of society today. Experience with Nippising and ASQ assessments is an asset. Creativity, openness and flexibility are all considered assets for programming as well as commitment to serving young families from a variety of circumstances. This is a non-licensed child care environment.
- Fluency in English and French is required
- Develops, coordinates and facilitates developmentally appropriate, enriched French language programs for children, 3 months to 5 years of age.
- Makes referrals for follow-up in consultation with the Manager of Support Services.
- Serves as a resource person for parents on Child Development, approaches and methods.
- Ensures that program protocols and guidelines and policies are followed.
- Oversees evaluation of children’s programs in the context of the Young Parent Outreach Centre, in keeping with Child Development Room guidelines /program requirements.
- Provides hands-on, age-appropriate child care for children whose parents are attending programs on site with children in different developmental stages in the same room.
- Ensures that child care protocols and guidelines are developed, implemented and followed.
- Identifies staffing relief requirements within the Child Development Room and brings this information to the Manger of Programs.
- Oversees the proper care of equipment and identifies needed purchases for the Child Development room and children’s programs. Follows strict sanitizing requirements and use of PPE
- Implements child program plans as established between the agency and our various funding sources and in collaboration with agency service partners.
- Ensures parents, volunteers, students and others who assist in the Child Development room experience the same positive, safe, learning environment as provided for the children
- Brings the voice of the child forward when necessary within the planning and organizing for programs within the multidisciplinary team meetings
- Projects a positive image of St. Mary’s Home in the community
- Actively participates in staff meetings, program team meetings and family case meetings as required
- Serves as a resource person to other staff on children’s developmental matters.
- Supports an integrative and collaborative approach within the Agency
- Engages in regular supervision and support.
- Promotes positive morale and agency well-being.
- Ability to portray the values of the agency in their work with families and within the team.
