Be the Spark! Join our professional and passionate team of early childhood educators. The YMCA of Greater Toronto is the largest not-for-profit provider of licensed child care in Canada and we have been making a positive difference in our community by providing quality childcare for over 50 years!

You will supervise, plan and deliver a consistent child-centred program in accordance with our YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum (0-6 year olds) and the YMCA Place to Connect curriculum (6-12 year olds). In this role, you will:

  • Develop and sustain good working relationship with families on a daily basis, with provincial and municipal authorities, with members of the community, acting as a model for staff.
  • Supervise the initial entry of each child into his/her child care group.
  • Sustain an understanding of each child's individual development, ensuring that appropriate, individual programming has been implemented by teaching staff.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the regulations and operating standards of the YMCA of Greater Toronto, municipal and provincial governments and ensures centre is run in accordance to these directives.
  • Recruit, orient, train and supervise all centre staff, students and volunteers. Provide coaching and development to staff with support from General Manager.
  • Maintain all administrative and financial systems of the centre, ensuring required reports are accurate and completed to deadlines as established.
  • Provide leadership and supervise staff in preparing quality weekly program planning and monthly calendars, in agreement with YMCA organizational goals, to meet the needs of members.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to on-site supervisors; implement and adhere to Parent Communication Standards.
  • Provide leadership to and work with centre staff to maintain a well-organized, safe and clean day care facility including playroom, playground, washrooms, cubicles and equipment.
  • Provide leadership to monthly staff meetings and provide individual supervisory sessions as required. Share resources and assists other centres as requested.
  • Ensure ongoing development through professional development workshops, YMCA Child & Family Development meetings and CFD functions.
  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all children, youth and vulnerable people in YMCA programs. Commit to the professional responsibility of maintaining knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures, child and youth development and best practices to best serve and protect children, youth, and vulnerable people.
  • Attend required curriculum training and professional development opportunities. Maintain qualifications and certifications as required by the YMCA and provincial standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you need to succeed:

  • Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services

You bring:

  • ECE diploma or degree and a minimum of 3 years previous supervisory experience
  • Must be registered and a member in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
  • A minimum of 1 year in current child care centre is preferred; previous experience in managing multiple program offerings an asset
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities
  • A capacity to give leadership to a multiple centre team and to develop management skills
  • Ability to work within a multi-service, not-for-profit organization
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification prior to the first day of work
  • Up-to-date immunizations required by Public Health
  • Flexibility and adaptability regarding assigned working hours
  • Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers in the program, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
