Position Summary
Jewish Family Services of Ottawa is looking for a part-time Social Worker/Case Manager.
Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager of Seniors Services of the Thelma Steinman Senior Services Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct services to Jewish seniors, including Holocaust Survivors, their families and caregivers which includes counselling, case management, system navigation, and program support.
The Thelma Steinman Seniors Support Services at Jewish Family Services of Ottawa offers comprehensive services to assist Jewish seniors and their families to identify and access needed supports, resources and programs to successfully manage life transitions and changing circumstances.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Master of Social Work (MSW) or equivalent from a recognized educational institution required.
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers, and the Ontario Association of Social Workers, or equivalent.
- Essential: Experience working with Seniors and their families.
- Preferred: Experience working with Jewish seniors and their families.
- Knowledge and skills in bereavement counselling and grief and loss.
- Knowledge and skills working with mental health challenges.
- Knowledge and skills implementing grounding and wellness strategies.
- Experience working from a trauma informed perspective.
- Experience working with individuals living with dementia and their care partners.
- Proficient use of computers and various software applications
- Strong knowledge of Jewish culture, history, and current concerns.
- Ability to assess situations and respond appropriately to client needs.
- Skill in working with seniors and client support systems regarding presenting needs and challenges.
- Aptitude and interest in client and care support partners education and advocacy
- Knowledge of Jewish communal and Ottawa community resources for seniors.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting, with clients and other agencies who are involved with the care of the clients.
- Sound judgement and strong problem-solving skills.
- Skill set to provide psychosocial assessment and work with client/client system to develop and implement agreed upon care plans.
- Skill and demonstrated competence in establishing supportive trusting relationships with clients.
- Sound knowledge of the needs/issues/concerns related to the aging journey.
