A small but growing company is seeking multiple people who can undertake the role of a part-time Bylaw Enforcement Officer. The ideal candidate would be a recently retired police officer or a graduate from a Law and Security/Police Foundations program.
We are currently accepting resumes to fulfill a pending contract, that is temporary in nature for the next couple of months. This work will consist of working 12 pm to 8 pm, on weekends.
The incumbent will enforce municipal by-laws supported by the Provincial Offences Act of Ontario. This position will investigate complaints as it relates to municipal park bylaws. This position will proactively address concerns while maintaining a positive, tactful demeanor with the public. A patrol vehicle and uniform will be provided. A fair amount of walking may be required.
We will train the right person, if required. Looking for someone who is mature, a great communicator along with a great work ethic.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for enforcement and education of municipal by-laws and regulations.
- Enforcement of provincial legislation and municipal by-laws.
- Patrol municipality for enforcement of parking violations and various private properties to identify Fire Route and Disabled Parking violations.
- Investigate and respond to external inquiries and/or complaints pertaining to municipal by-laws and provincial acts.
- Respond to complaints and investigate matters surrounding building maintenance and the privately- owned lands which surround them.
- Seek compliance through negotiation and mediation, where applicable.
- Issue warning and infraction notices to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws and provincial acts.
- Conduct full investigations, including collecting evidence, witness statements, in accordance with authorizing legislation.
- Prepare reports and update databases as required.
- Prepare all necessary documentation to facilitate prosecution.
- Attend court, as necessary.
- Other duties related to general by-law enforcement and investigative/court duties.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Preferred - minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
- Preferred - college diploma/certificate in Law Enforcement, Municipal Law Enforcement, (Building Regulations) or equivalent
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service orientation
- Problem-solving skills, discretion, and good judgment when handling confidential/sensitive information
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and record-keeping skills
- Preferred knowledge of Building Code Act, Municipal Act, Provincial Offenses Act
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Class G driver’s licence in good standing (no demerit points)
- Flexible work shifts, including some evenings and weekends, if necessary.
- Able to work outside in all weather conditions, including walking or sitting for long periods
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificates are an asset
- (Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check within 8 weeks of employment)
- The incumbent must be a self-starter and independent worker
- The ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize activities and manage stress with a high degree of maturity and professionalism are critical
- Reliable access to transportation is essential
- A good driving record - a driver licence abstract will be required
HOURS:
- Temporary contract, Saturday and Sundays, 12 pm to 8 pm. May lead to continual work with additional hours.
