Job Description: As a School Bus Driver at Avicenna Academy, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school. You will operate a 16-passenger bus, ensuring that students have a secure and pleasant journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow Scheduled Routes: Adhere to the assigned route for pickups and stops while maintaining order among the students on the bus.
- Safe Driving: Practice safe driving techniques, communicate effectively with students of all ages, and observe strict passenger transport regulations.
- Assist Students: Help younger or disabled students with boarding, seating, and disembarking, ensuring all students travel comfortably and safely.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all students comply with safety regulations and follow bus safety guidelines.
- Weather Adaptation: Adjust driving techniques and prepare the bus for various weather conditions, such as snow, ice, or heavy rain, to maintain safety.
- Emergency Preparedness: Handle emergencies such as medical incidents, vehicle breakdowns, or evacuations, including knowing emergency procedures and administering basic first aid if needed.
- Pre-Trip Inspections: Conduct daily pre-trip inspections of the bus to check for mechanical issues or safety concerns, including brakes, lights, tires, and other essential systems.
- Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of student ridership, incidents, and any maintenance issues or repairs needed for the bus.
- Communication: Maintain clear communication with school and daycare officials, parents, and students, including reporting any incidents, schedule changes, or safety concerns.
- Professional Interaction: Interact with students, parents, and school staff in a professional and respectful manner, setting a positive example through behavior and attitude.
- Certification and Training: Maintain necessary certifications and training, and participate in ongoing professional development to stay updated on safety protocols and regulations.
- Bus Cleanliness: Ensure the bus is kept clean and tidy, including routine cleaning and addressing any messes or spills.
- Backup Driver: Secure a spare driver to take over duties and responsibilities during your absence.
Requirements:
- Valid Manitoba Class 4 Driver’s License.
- Clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Criminal Record Check Report.
- Child and Adult Abuse Registry Report.
- Proof of Residency (PR card or work permit).
- Current First Aid Training Certificate.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience driving a school bus or similar vehicle preferred.
- Excellent driving record and strong understanding of traffic laws.
- Ability to manage and supervise young students.
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
Working Hours and Compensation:
- The Driver is expected to work two shifts per school day.
- Morning Shift: 6:00 am to 9:00 am.
- Afternoon Shift: 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
- Each shift includes two round trips between the school and students’ residences.
- The Driver is not required to be present between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm during a regular school day.
- Total work hours: 5-6 hours per school day.
- Compensation: $100.00 - $120 per day.
- For extra-curricular trips, compensation is based on the actual number of hours required, prorated according to the daily rate.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months
Pay: $110.00-$120.00 per day
