The Town of Slave Lake is looking for an energetic and responsible individual to join our team as a Building Maintenance Worker (MRC/Parks) to provide and maintain high-quality recreation and leisure facilities and parks. This will include performing labour and maintenance duties within approved policy, procedures, and specifications. This role may require working days, afternoons, evenings and/or weekends.

SALARY
$26.89 - $33.91 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide excellent customer service by using good public relation skills
- Foster good relations with other staff, management, and public.
- Operate ice surface equipment and cleaning equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain MRC and all parks/green space to industry and/or legislated standards.
- Operate all the appropriate MRC/Parks equipment and perform related duties in accordance with the manufacturer’s operator manuals, Occupational Health and Safety regulations and Town safety policies.
- Basic landscaping duties as required, including planting flowers.
- Complete tree maintenance, including pruning and planting (as per Town of Slave Lake standards).
- Implement a watering program that will assist in the growth and maturation of trees, shrubs, and flowers.
- Undertake minor construction and repair projects in town-owned facilities and parks.
- General clean-up of all parks and green space areas.
- Provide staffing to special events and facilities under the direction of the town, as required
- Perform janitorial duties as required.
- Performs maintenance duties as delegated.
- Maintain all tools and equipment in accordance with the owner/operator manuals.
- perform other routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair
- maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and make minor purchases as required
- respond to requests from residents for minor repairs
- perform daily inspections on the building systems
- provide general assistance to skilled trade persons such as mechanics, electricians, carpenters and plumbers
- ensure that security and safety measures are in place in the establishment
- May move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies
- May supervise other workers.
- Perform related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum education of Grade 12.
- Ability/willingness to be trained or operate safely and efficiently ice surfacing equipment and small equipment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Prior experience in horticulture is an asset
- Must be willing to work weekends if necessary
- Must be willing to work in inclement weather
- Must be physically fit
- Possession of an Alberta Class five (5) driver’s license or equivalent.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR is an asset.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
- Must be willing and able to work in inclement weather.
- Must be physically fit.
- Good verbal communications and public relations skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- Exerts moderate physical effort on occasion.
- Works in all types of environments – closed spaces, chemical storage areas, building system rooms, cold ice surfaces, humid pool areas.
- May be required to adjust work hours to accommodate special events and other scheduled uses at facilities.
- May work alone.
- Work in high noise levels
- May be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, and evenings.
