Our Library System

The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL), the biggest Regional District department provides services through 13 locations and a Mobile Library. Located in the Central Interior of British Columbia, the TNRL is committed to providing excellent service to patrons for lifetime personal growth, learning and enjoyment. The Library team provides programming, materials and resources to people of all ages and abilities. As a member of the library team, you will help to build strong relationships and partnerships in all our communities.

The Role

The TNRL is seeking a permanent part-time Branch Head for the Clinton Library who will create a welcoming environment and a superb library experience for all. The Branch Head will help patrons of all ages with circulation, reference, readers’ advisory and technology questions. The Branch Head will also be responsible for creating, organizing and delivering programs for children, young adults and adults. The Branch Head completes cash reconciliation, approves timesheets and assists with staff scheduling, facility and safety inspections, routine reports and statistics. Outside of the scheduled hours of operation, the Branch Head will deliver and participate in staff training, meetings, system projects and initiatives, and offer outreach programs or attend community events. The Branch Head will develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, patrons and the community through excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Travel may be required for meetings and/or professional development. There is a physical component to the position as library staff stand or walk for the entirety of the shift; move, pack and unpack delivery bins, check in and shelve library materials, regular keyboarding, as well as other duties.

Schedule

The Branch Head works a rotating schedule. Week 1 is 16 hours plus one hour of unscheduled administration time; week 2 is 12 hours plus one unscheduled hour of administration time. Additional hours may be scheduled for meetings/training purposes.

Schedule until September 30, 2025:

  • Tuesday : 12:30-19:00
  • Thursday : 13:30- 19:00
  • Alternate Saturdays : 10:00 -14:00

Schedule as of October 1, 2025:

  • Tuesday: 11:00 - 15:00
  • Wednesday: 13:00 - 17:00
  • Thursday: 15:00 - 19:00
  • Alternate Saturdays: 11:00 - 15:00
Job Requirements

  • Technology training of staff and patrons will require a strong background in computers and tech devices including but not limited to:
    • Knowledge of Windows, Android and iOS operating systems
    • Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Office Programs
    • Ability to operate and troubleshoot peripheral equipment such as printers, e-reader, tablets, ebooks/eaudiobooks, and a variety of smartphones
  • A passion for helping others and a belief in the importance of literacy
  • Minimum two-year certificate/diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Experience in developing and delivering programs to all ages
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle challenging situations
  • Ability to work independently; ability to work in a team environment to participate in system-wide programs and initiatives

  • Valid Drivers License

The position is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the BC General Employees’ Union, Local 705. This position is a Pay Grid Level 10 which is $28.43 - $31.45/hour. Non-benefitted staff receive 18.2%-21.2% in lieu of annual vacation, statutory holidays, sick leave, and benefits as per Article 25.8.
