High School Biology / AP Biology / Biology Olympiad Teacher
Responsibilities
- Teach high school–level Biology aligned with the BC curriculum; deliver AP Biology content and coach Biology Olympiad (e.g., USABO/CBO) preparation.
- Design engaging lesson plans, labs, and inquiry-based activities that address diverse learning needs and deepen biological understanding.
- Assess learning via assignments, quizzes, lab reports, and exams; provide timely, constructive feedback and targeted reteaching.
- Integrate real-world and research applications (molecular biology, genetics, ecology, physiology, etc.) and emphasize scientific thinking and data analysis.
- Communicate regularly with BLUBC education consultants on progress, gaps, and next-step interventions.
Qualifications (Biology-specific)
- Master’s degree in Biology (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology) or a closely related field required; PhD in Biology preferred.
- 2+ years teaching High School Biology / AP Biology (or IB DP Biology) and/or coaching Biology Olympiad with proven student outcomes.
- Strong background in experimental design and lab safety; able to demonstrate and supervise hands-on labs.
- Familiarity with AP Biology CED and/or IB Biology assessment criteria is a strong asset.
- Excellent English communication (oral & written); effective classroom management and student support.
- Proficient with ed-tech/online platforms; able to teach in-person and online.
- Experienced in differentiating instruction and creating customized materials for varying levels.
BLUBC Specific Requirements
- Design custom course outlines that meet each student’s academic goals (AP/IB/Olympiad/BC curriculum).
- Assign and grade relevant homework after each class; return feedback promptly.
- Conduct regular diagnostics and progress reports with actionable recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with BLUBC consultants to align teaching strategies with student objectives.
- Adhere to all BLUBC policies, procedures, and student-care guidelines.
- Available for in-person sessions at UBC/Vancouver; open to online sessions as needed.
