The Behaviour Consultant (BC) in Dual Diagnosis Collaborative Consultation Program (DDCCP) works as part of the Behavioural Consultation Services (BCS) team to ensure the organization’s vision, mission, core values and strategic directions are developed and implemented. The Behaviour Consultant works in the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) office as a member of the DDCCP team to provide supports for people 16 years of age and older who have an identified or suspected dual diagnosis (i.e., a developmental disability and a mental health diagnosis). The Behaviour Consultant provides evidence-based behavioural services to empower individuals, caregivers, and partner agencies within the Peterborough, Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge and Northumberland area. The Behaviour Consultant uses Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and other evidence-based practices within a biopsychosocial framework to deliver identified behavior intervention supports. The Behaviour Consultant researches relevant literature and designs, monitors, and evaluates behaviour intervention plans to support desired treatment outcomes in line with the individual’s goals. This role provides direct support to the client to build skills that help alleviate the mental health symptoms of concern and provides resources and training to caregivers or mediators based on a collaborative, individualized treatment plan. The Behaviour Consultant’s role is to ensure that best practices are followed and quality service is delivered while enhancing the overall quality of life and independence for individual’s accessing services. The DDCCP Behaviour Consultant should be able to collaborate effectively on a daily basis within the multidisciplinary team that makes up the DDCCP. Significant working knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, developmental and intellectual disability, and psychotropic medications required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- The Behaviour Consultant provides advanced behavioural services and training using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) within a biopsychosocial framework to individuals, families, and service providers that contribute to the enhancement of the quality of life of persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) under the clinical direction of the Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Manager.
- Complete functional behaviour assessments, individualized skill assessments, and development of function-based treatment packages/ intervention plans
- Writing formal reports outlining those plans
- Providing direct service and mediator training to implement and monitor the use of the strategies as outlined in the intervention plans
- Graphing and analyzing data related to the goals and training objectives
- Develop and facilitate training programs for service users, mediators, and group teaching as required
- Communicate agency purpose, behavioural consultation service programming to stakeholders as needed
- Ongoing collaboration with Dual-Diagnosis Collaborative Community Partnership (DDCCP) representative for additional support for mental health or psychiatric supports as needed. Follow up with other professionals on additional assessments as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Psychology or Behavioural Science or equivalent
- Registered Behaviour Analyst with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario qualifications or ability to obtain RBA (Ont.) is an asset
- 5+ years’ experience in caseload management or short-term consultation experience
- Demonstrated experience of using best practice in supporting service users
- Direct experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities, dual-diagnosis disabilities, mental health or other diagnoses
- Direct experience working with youth and adults with developmental delays, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and other diagnoses
- Working knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th Edition (DSM 5) to provide information to clients and or caregivers
- Project management and leadership experience
- Annual completion of a Criminal Background Check/Declaration, including Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)
- First Aid CPR Level C and ASIST Training
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- Valid G-Class driver’s license for the Province of Ontario, access to reliable transportation and have valid proof of automobile insurance with driving for business purposes and a minimum liability of two million dollars
