The Before & After School Program Staff is a key member of the Children and Early Teens multidisciplinary team, responsible for helping to plan and facilitate engaging learning experiences for school-aged children (4- 12). This role ensures smooth operations, effective supervision, and the overall safety of the program. We are seeking a dynamic, responsible, and dedicated individual who excels in working with children, fostering teamwork, and communicating effectively. Looking for an energetic, committed and responsible person who works well with children and is an effective team builder and communicator to translate the HIGH FIVE Principles into actions that directly impact children development. The role requires a compassionate adult who provides both structured and unstructured play opportunities, empowering children to express themselves and participate fully in all activities.
Candidates must be willing and able to work from multiple sites if the need arises. This position requires a commitment to working a minimum of (3) days a week.
Program Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver daily activities that align with the program schedule, ensuring all materials and supplies are prepared in advance
- Plan, facilitate and evaluate creative and engaging activities along with other team members on a daily basis
- Work collaboratively with a network of colleagues across the organization to support and inclusive environment
- Model emotional maturity, respect and empathy with participants, staff and caregivers
- Ensure safety, supervision, and wellbeing of all participants throughout the program
- Respond appropriately when addressing challenging participant behaviours as they arise
- Support children’s learning and development by facilitating meaningful experiences guided by HIGHFIVE principles
- Maintain open and respectful communication with parents and guardians about child’s participation and progress
- Follow safety guidelines and ensure proper use of equipment and materials in all program areas
- Complete attendance sheets and store them securely at the end of each day
- Prepare and serve snack according to daily snack menu
- Keep program spaces tidy and organized, including cleaning surfaces and equipment as needed
- Plan physical activities that include being active indoors and outdoors
- Provide homework support to participates as needed
Key Qualifications and Assets
- Educational background applicable to this position
- Experience working with children 4 to 12 years old.
- Strong skills in one or more of the following areas: sports, arts, recreation, education, health and nutrition.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate (Mandatory)
- HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate (Mandatory)
- Police Reference Check (to be completed upon hiring) (Mandatory)
- Demonstrates creativity, innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and a collaborative workstyle
- Demonstrates group leadership and positive behavior management
