We are seeking casual Autism Support Workers to provide respite care for community clients across Simcoe County. Scheduling is flexible and hours can vary from 4-20hrs per week for these clients. The ideal candidates drive and are comfortable driving clients in their vehicle to go on outings, appointments, etc. Scheduling is flexible, but open availability is an asset.

The successful candidate’s areas of responsibility will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Driving clients to outings, appointments, to run errands, etc.
  • Provide care for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Support individuals in the home and/or in the community with: behavior management, community involvement, personal care and recreational activities
  • Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual support
  • Ability to de-escalate potential concerns with patience and soft skills
  • Implementation of crisis management techniques where necessary
  • Managing challenging client behaviors including aggression and self-injurious behaviors
  • Complete accurate documentation and maintain open communication with family
  • All other duties, as assigned

Key qualifications for this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • PSW, DSW, SSW, or C&YW diploma is preferred**
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with ASD
  • CPI, TCI, UMAB, or Safe Management training is required***
  • Completion of Police Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months
  • Current CPR certification
  • Satisfactory professional references
  • All staff are required to have a drivers license, car insurance, and their own vehicle
  • Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions
