Days/Hours of Work: Wednesday to Saturday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (32 hours per week). Additional coverage may be necessary to support operations.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Thrift Store Manager is responsible for assisting the Thrift Store Manager with the day-to-day operational management of the store. Utilizing excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, the Assistant Thrift Store Manager will supervise and support employees and volunteers and be a role model of exceptional customer service. In the Thrift Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Thrift Store Manager will serve as the manager in charge.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a high level of customer service through sales assistance, answering and returning phone calls, helping to load items into vehicles and directing customers to other Thrift Shop locations as needed
- Ensure the thrift stores are a safe environment for staff, volunteers and customers by following the organization’s health and safety policy and procedures
- Ensure opening and closing procedures are followed, such as daily cash reports, bank deposits and maintaining an extra float
- Input daily cash reports into the computer as directed by the Thrift Store Manager
- Assist in the recruitment and training of new volunteers
- Provide overall volunteer support and ensure the volunteers are treated with respect and that their contributions are valued. Welcome, engage, and thank the volunteers every shift.
- Monitor retail layout and display with frequent walks throughout the shop daily to maintain organization and cleanliness, colour blocking, and regular updates of floor displays to attract customers to the store
- Maintain a clean and tidy store with daily garbage and recycling removal, swept floors, dusted shelves, emptied change rooms, and clear floor and counter area at the end of the day
- Use the communication book as a tool to convey relevant information to the managers working alternate shifts
- Communicate feedback or ideas to the Thrift Store Manager
- Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure all staff members and volunteers are aware of any policy changes or store issues
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all personnel matters
- Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Supervisory experience in a retail setting
- Experience working with the public or in a community service sector
- Experience working within a Thrift Shop environment is an asset
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the general public, co-workers and volunteers
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and provide direction and effective guidance to volunteers
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Skilled in the use of MS 365 (Teams, Word, Outlook, etc)
