Reporting to the Facility Supervisor ACC, the Arena Operator Assistant is responsible for the daily cleaning throughout the facility, facility set ups, supervising part time staff, facility supervision, ensuring building security, providing exceptional customer service to user groups, and completing Town required logs and reports.Arena Operator Assistants are responsible for supervising and directing the work of part time rink attendant staff assigned to work in their respective arena, including training, inspection of work, providing feedback on their work, and reporting any issues or concerns to the appropriate Facility Supervisor or Facility Manager. Arena Operator Assistants are also responsible for the monitoring and supervision of the public, both on ice, within the seating / standing areas, and lobbies. This includes addressing problematic behaviour and intervening where necessary, reporting any issues to the appropriate Facility Supervisor / Facility Manager and/or DRPS where required.
Job Duties Include
Daily cleaning and disinfection of dressing rooms, washrooms, hallways, stands, benches, and lobby areas.
Weekly scrubbing of dressing room floors, walls and shower areas and cleaning of all Arena and lobby glass.
Carries out Winter Control responsibilities such as inspecting and maintaining condition of walkways, entrances, and emergency exits and performing snow/ice removal duties when required.
Maintaining safe conditions in the arena’s mechanical, janitorial, and storage rooms ensuring all equipment and chemicals are stored properly as well as maintaining correct workplace labels on all hazardous product containers.
Ensuring Ice Re-surfacer remains in safe operating condition by inspecting all fluid levels and mechanical components.
Inspecting ice condition every shift to ensure it is safe for use and maintaining ice pads throughout the day.
Assisting in preparations for tournaments and special events, advising permit holders of available resources, carrying out permit holder’s set-up requests, and ensuring safety measures are in place.
Responding to customer inquiries, requests, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
Monitoring and supervising public on the ice, providing first aid to injured customers and reporting incidents involving customers.
Supervising part time Rink Attendants, addressing problematic behaviour and intervening when required.
Shifts will consist of working at the ACC and offsite at our outdoor rink Pat Bayly Square.
Operating a town vehicle.
Qualifications/Skills
Completion of Grade 12 High School Diploma required.
Over 1 year of experience required.
Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
Valid Standard First Aid with CPR C.
WHIMIS training.
Must be able to work evening and weekend shifts.
Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference / Vulnerable Sector check that is current (completed in the last six months), upon being hired.
Nice to Have
TSSA Refrigeration Operator Class “B” Refrigeration Certificate or 4th Class Operating Engineer Certificate considered to be an asset.
ORFA Certified Ice Technician (C.I.T.) certificate considered an asset.
Working at Heights Certification considered to be an asset.
Mental Health First Aid is an asset.
What is Offered to Staff
Rate of Pay : $33.49 - $36.40 per hour.
Hours of Work : This is a non-union position that works up to 24 hours per week. The hours of work are rotating evening and weekend shifts.
