POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Archaeology Supervisor, the Archaeology Project Coordinator is responsible for conducting guided and independent archaeological research within Westbank First Nation’s Area of Responsibility. The Archaeology Project Coordinator will aid in liaison between governments, third parties, and other departments on archaeological related matters.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Administration or Business Administration Certificate required
  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project management is required
  • Experience working in a First Nations environment is an asset
  • One to two years of previous experience in customer service
  • Previous experience working with office equipment
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and Acceptable Driver’s Abstract
  • Owns a vehicle with minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Works closely with the Archaeology Supervisor and team members towards objectives and outcomes consistent with Archaeological field investigations by:
    • ensuring archaeological field investigations of various levels are complete
    • monitoring projects, timelines and budgets
    • reporting on archaeological site assessments
  • Provides administrative support by:
    • Ensuring that archaeological materials are appropriately processed for archiving, curation, and storage,
    • Coordinated efforts between WFN departments
    • Assist in responding to and coordinating correspondence, inquiries and invitations for the archaeology Office.
    • Prepares timesheets for the WFN archaeology field crew, this includes working with Accounts Payable, Payroll and Accounts Receivable to process timesheets
    • Books and provides payment for all travel arrangements for archaeology crew members and archaeology supervisor
  • Clearly and succinctly, establish and maintain reporting measures as assigned by the Archaeology Supervisor by:
    • Writing and preparing archaeological reports, letters, memoranda, proposals, and summaries
    • Maintaining comparison summaries of archaeological artifacts
    • Completing site descriptions, discussion, and justification of site significance assessments
  • Prepares and administers budgets and arranges for equipment to conduct field studies and supervises those studies
  • Interacts in a professional manner with clients, project sponsors, and the interested public
  • Understands Safe Work Procedures, for office and field work
  • Supervises field crews during field surveys, excavations, and in the office in the absence, or under direction, of the Archaeology Supervisor
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Archaeology Supervisor

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including effective presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to set priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of mapping
  • Knowledge of archaeology regulations and requirements
  • General knowledge of archaeological artifacts
  • A minimum typing and transcribing speed of at least 40 wpm
  • Strong research and analytical skills as well as problem solving methods
  • Strong financial acumen, knowledge of budgeting and invoicing
  • Strong contract negotiating skills
